The only thing that is pretty much permanent is death but a chip can be repaired with composite bonding. No numbing involved......the edge of the chip is roughened up with a diamond bur in a handpiece. Then bonding material is placed and then tooth colored composite. This is cured with a bright light and then polished. Takes less than 30 min. and you'll hardly be able to see the repair. Length of time you'll have it depends on too many factors but I've seen these last over 20 years.

Ask a Dentist

um nothing much you can do. youll have to get a mold and get it pulled and get a fake tooth

The dentist will probably fill it then place a cap or crown on it to make it permanent. I had a huge chip in my front teeth and thats what they did and it looks good as new.

They just take a cast and fill it in, that's it. It won't fall out or anything. They don't exactly make it with scotch tape and Elmer's glue. It's professional work,

the dentist can put a little filling in it
they did that with one of my jacked up teeth
it came out when i was too rough with flossing,
but i just had a cheap fillingish thing done
pay a little more, and that thing would be there for a LONG time
ps..what i had done does NOT hurt =]

when your tooth or teeth get chiped its permanent

well i have quite a big chip in my front tooth.
i had to get a cap thing put on it.
if you go to the local dentist and tell them that you really dont want it to be filed down im sure they will beable to do something.
there professionals.
:)

They would put some bonding on it. As long as you aren't grinding your teeth, and your bite isn't what caused the chip, some binding on it should fix it and it should last for a long time (8-15 yrs). Just be more careful when you bite into hard things. Mine just chipped biting into a hard chunk of fried skin of a piece of chicken! It was a very hard chunk.

Don't use your teeth for opening anything anymore!

a small chip can be filled just as a cavity. the bigger the chip, the more work involved, of course.

go to the dentist

they can put a crown on it.

I'm a dental hygienist and it completely depends on the size of the chip. If it just a small chip they will file it down and place a composite (white) filling. If it is quite extensive they can bond the tooth back to itself (if you kept the part that fell off) or they can make a mold to bond. Because your front teeth require a lot of tensile force when you bight into things, it might need a crown. It all depends on the size of the chip. See your dentist for the best options for you.

In the mean time, if it is jagged or rough and bothering you, you can take a nail file and lightly file down the jagged part just so it doesn't snag anymore. Don't try to completely file it down yourself, only enough to take the edge off.
