Dentures? How long will it take?!

Question: I've given up on my teeth. I've finally decided to have them out and get dentures.

My question: How long will it take (approximately) from the time of the denture consultation until I can get the surgery done and be wearing my new dentures?

Does it take a long time to get used to wearing them? Is it difficult to talk afterward?

Any other advice for me? Please don't try to talk me out of it! My teeth just aren't worth saving.

Thanks so much.

An impression will be taken before your teeth are pulled.

About 3-4 weeks. When ready, then your teeth will be pulled and the dentures placed in your mouth, immediately.
Since your mouth will be numb, you may have no way to know if the fit is perfect. Your bite can be checked immediately.

There will be swelling for a few days as your gums heal. It's uncomfortable but not unbearable. You will have pain meds if needed. It's important to keep them in as you heal. This allows the gums to adjust to the dentures.

After the numbness is gone and swelling subsides, you will know whether adjustments are needed, and there usually are.
Those are included in the cost.

You should become accustomed within a few days, weeks at most, if the fit is correct. They'll soon feel like your own.

its takes about 5 weeks to get your dentures from start to finnish, then you will have to go back weekly after you have them if they rub on your gums and have a little taken off, you will talk with a slight lisp after but that goes after a couple of weeks , you will be given info sheet when your given your new dentures, it takes a little while to get used to them but persevere and you will be fine.

If you have truly given up on your teeth, then you need to find out a couple things
Do you have a gag reflex? The upper denture must extend into your soft palate. Put your finger back where the palate gets soft and see if you gag easily.
Also it will take a while to get used to chewing with dentures.
Just like walking with a wooden leg would take a while to get used to.
For immediate dentures, it should take about 3 weeks to a month to get everything done and new dentures placed.
Talking may also be a challenge for a while.
The average life of a denture is 5 years, so you will need reline or remake every 5 years.
If you have strong rooted teeth, it is difficult to remove them and harder to heal.
Consider these things before getting all teeth removed and dentures made
The best advice I can give would be to do the uppers first and separate from the lowers, then the lab can use your existing lower teeth to know how to make the uppers, then after getting used to the uppers have the lowers done.

I don't know the exact time but my mom got the partical ones and took like two months to order then about a week to get used to them .
The way I look at is you know your teeth and if you want new ones hay why not is your mouth.

But it did cost i don't know how much because she didn't have insurance she has a dental discount plan.

She said she saved over 3,000 so I guess that's good
If you have insurance that's awsome but if you don't.

i guess this is how her plan works

This plan is just$20 per month this is this the site she found

What was cool about there no waiting period, no annual maximums and no pre-existing condition exclusion.
Which is good because she is one those people who has to get it done when she wants and have ing to wait she might not have been brave enough to . (she has a Little fear of the dentist)

One word of advice before signing up with any dental plan. Make sure to check the dentist provider list and pick a dentist (if you can't find your dentist on the lists). Call the dentist to make sure they're still taking the plan and they're accepting new patients.

I hope it helps
