What is the road to becoming an Orthodontist?!

Question: I think it would be interesting being an Orthodontist. You get to straighten out people's teeth and solve problems. And you also make a truck load of cash!

So what is the road to doing this? Be specific if you could. I have heard some horror stories about medical students being worked like dogs for pennies. Is it anything like this?
