Headgear is not as common now as it used to be!. There are many intraoral devices and ways to move teeth without headgear now!. Most often if headgear is required it can be worn at night only!. Don't fret over this issue!. Look at the big picture!.!.!.your teeth will be straight in a short time! Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com
I had my braces 20 years ago, and only had to wear my headgear at night!.

Headgear is normally worn just evenings and night times to hold back the growth of the upper jaw so that the lower jaw can catch up (if it's too small)!.
There is a type of headgear occasionally used for underbites!. It is called protraction headgear, reverse pull headgear or facemask (do a google image search for "protraction headgear" if you want to see what it looks like)Www@Answer-Health@Com
