I have a big tooth cavity and have attempted going through with the dental appoi!

Question: I have a big tooth cavity and have attempted going through with the dental appointment twice!?
Hi,
I'm 14 years old and I'm not ashamed to admit it, I am terrified of the dentists!
The first bad encounter with this big hole in my tooth was once when I was munching on some walkers crisps, then a small part of a crisp dug into the hole and it was agony for hours!.
I attempted a dentist appointment but when it came to the needle in the mouth, I couldn't go through with it!. I've never had a needle in the mouth and I also hate needles!

The second attempted appointment, he wasn't going to do it then a there but instead he said he would clears the food out of the inside of the tooth then put a tempory cover on the cavity until the next appointment, when he started digging in the tooth, it set the pain off and once again I couldn't continue

Because of this, I have now been encouraged to go the hospital where they will put me to sleep and take out the tooth!.

Do you think I should give the dentists another shot!? But bearing in mind, I'm a very nervous person

So, what would you guys do!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you really can't deal with it, then you should see about finding a dentist that uses light anesthesia!.!.!.there are a few around that specialize in it for people who just can't deal with it but need to work done!.

If that is not an option you should try to go through with it!. I promise you it WON'T be as bad as you expect, and the little pinch of the needle is no where near as bad as the pain in your tooth now!. And, in a matter of a few seconds (at most minutes) it is completely numb!. Also, you can see if your dentist has laughing gas, he can five you that to calm you before the shot!.

But yeah, if you really CAN'T do it, definitely can't go through with it, see about one that puts you into a light sleep!. Your teeth are too important to not get over this fear one way or another!.

Oh yeah, they are often advertised under "Sedation dentistry"Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try pulling it out yourself!. That's what I would do if I was that scared of the dentist!. The hopsital is going to be 10 times more expensive and even more painful so why not just try the dentist one last time!? Pretend you are just going in for a cleaning and just tell them that you want to close your eyes the entire time!. You won't know that it's over until it's over!Www@Answer-Health@Com

take a few valium and go!. Or the hospital, as you wish!. But a general anesthesia is quite hard on the body!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i recently had a tooth out and i hadn't been to the dentist for years, you don't feel the needle go in to your gum very much, it's bearable, but if you've got the option of a general anaesthetic in a hospital, then go for it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can either go to a dentist that gives you a pill to calm you down OR go to a dentist that will use nitrous oxide gas and you can be in la la land!. Really, the needle isn't that bad!. Take slow deep breaths, the dentist will shake your cheek a bit and it will be over shortly!. Courage, my friend! Inage what a drag a root canal will be if you wait too long!. Actually, I had one of those too, and it was a piece of cake!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am going to be 30 and I am still afraid of the dentist-it's just a phobia I guess!. But I still go-I of course get the "happy gas" to get me thru!.

Trust me-please take care of your teeth now-because it will be harder once you get older!. With technology today, be grateful they have what they do!

Also, sometimes they can numb the area before the shot-just take deep breaths and think happy thoughts!.!.!.or get the "happy gas" that helps me!

You'll be fine! Go back to the dentist and let him/or her know how you feel you aren't the first and definitely won't be the last person who gets nervous about the dentist!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The hospital doesn't have the resources to remove the tooth!. I would suggest that you ask to me placed under via Gas!. Laughing gas!. This will temporarily knock you out long enough for them to numb the tooth via needle!. This will also allow them enough time to do the drilling that needs to be done!. Also there are types of ointment they can place in the area of injection of the anestetic to make it less painful!.
Good luck!.

PS: if your dentist doesn't do nitrous find a dentist who will!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've always hated needles too!. Ask the dentist to use a topical anesthetic before using the needle!. KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED and you will probably never feel more than a little bit of a sting when the needle goes in!. Breath deeply and relax!.
Also ask the dentist not to use anesthetic with epinephrine in it!. It makes your heart speed up for a few seconds which will no doubt add to your terror!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Seriously, I know where you're coming from - I too am completely terrified!.

There's an absolutely brilliant website for people with this problem!. I can't remember the name of it, but it's so good, I'll go and see if I can find you a link!.

Give me a few mins!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my sister goes to a specialist dentist that gives her anathsetic (sorry can't spell)!. This knocks her out and she don't feel a thing or know wot is going on!. Costs a bit more than the usual dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

mate im exactly the same as you but what i realised was that i could just about manage 30 mins of slight pain in the dentist chair compared to days and nights of unbearable pain in my rotted tooth!. also when you get the needle in the mouth it dosn't hurt its like a little scratch!. trust me i know where you are coming from but you havn't got anything to worry about!. i say go to the dentist and confront your fear head on because this won't be the last visit you will be making, might as well get used to it now! good luck mate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ask them to call you in a prescription to the pharmacy for
a valium first!. It will relax you but not put you to sleep!.
You take it about an hour before you go in for your appointment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
