Question: What is the best technolog for crown lengthening (gum contouring)!?
My daughter has very small stained teeth!. The periodontist recommended cutting the gum to increase the tooth length!. When I looked on line, some periodontists use lasers for this!. The periodontist my daughter is seeing does not!. What is the difference between using a laser and not using a laser!? Should I find someone else!? Following the gum contouring, he would apply vaneers eight weeks later!. Thank you in advance for your help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

im a dentist and im a little curious as to what the periodontist is attempting to achieve by just removing gum alone!. by this i mean if you only remove gum the effect is temporary!. !.a permanent effect can only be achieved by removing some bone as well!. the gum level tends to lie at the level of the bone so if gum is just removed it is very likely the gum will grow back in a short while once the veneers have been placed and then you will back exactly where you started!. gum contouring and crown lenghtening are 2 different things!. if you just want the gum margins neatened because they are uneven then this procedure suits
lasers would probably be quicker and cortorise the tissue at the same time so there would be less bleeding!. i imagine laser is more expensive though!. there is nothing wrong with good old fashioned surgery!. it works just as well!.
