Anesthesia awareness during wisdom teeth extraction?!

Question: Anesthesia awareness during wisdom teeth extraction!?
I had my wisdom teeth taken out Friday and I had anesthesia awareness for maybe 5min +!. Are certain people more susceptible to this happening!? I'm worried in a future surgery it could happen again!. It was extremely frightening!.

I take no medications!. I don't drink or smoke!. As far as I know I'm a healthy 19 year old!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had surgeries both before and after having my wisdom teeth removed!.

I had a general anesthetic in the dental chair and 2 wisdom teeth cut out!. Like you I had some awareness while under the anesthetic!. It was a bit like a dream and the memories have dissipated just like a dream will some times do!. All I can remember now is that I could hear people talking!. Immediately after the surgery I could remember some of what was said but like I said, it dissipated!. I was not aware of any pain during the surgery but I do remember feeling pressure!.

The good news; I have been under general anesthetic three times since then and I have absolutely no memory of anything after the anesthetic was administered until I awoke in the recovery room or in one case the ICU!.

I hope you never have to have another surgery but if you do, I don't think there is any reason to worry!.

BTW, the last 2 surgeries were after I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and I was taking medications for mild cholesterol and high blood pressure along with my diabetes meds and aspirin as a blood thinner!. I smoke and drink toooooooo much coffee!.

Wow, you now know as much about me as my doctor does, please don't tell anyone!.!.!.LOLWww@Answer-Health@Com

Holy shitake mushrooms!

When I had my wisdom teeth removed they gave me a medication with the anesthesia that would basically erase my memory!. So even if I did wake up, I would not remember it happening!.

I hope you weren't in pain!Www@Answer-Health@Com

That happened to me too!
You may have to ask for more!.!.!. I know my body takes more than the usual!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No!. It just happens sometimes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you need to be more specific!. Most wisdom teeth removals are done under "twilight" anesthesia, where you're still pretty much awake, but loaded with painkillers and light sedation!. It's not abnormal to be somewhat aware of what's happening!. What happened that made you think you had "anesthesia awareness"!?

General anesthesia, for more significant surgery, is a different ball game, where you are not awake -- different medications!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

umm well for removing your wisdom teeth anesthesia isn't important!. I got mine pulled without it!. They gave me numbing stuff insulin into my gums, but you don't need go "go under" or be knocked out for it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The anesthesia for wisdom teeth is very different than what is used for other body surgeries!. Oral surgeons do "conscious sedation" which is a sedation that is meant to suppress your memories of the surgery, all while maintaining your abilities to cough or gag if needed (protective reflexes)!. The most common drug used for this is Versed!. This drug is supposed to mess up your ability to have longterm memories about procedures!.
Many people (me included), remember the procedures, but care very much!.(I had it for an arm surgery, and a d&c after a miscarriage!.!.!. I remember the procedures, but could care less!.!.!. when offered it for a lumpectomy, I refused, since it doesn't really work on me) The same with my brother, so it makes me feel like there's a genetic link!.
For major surgeries, it's a whole other class of drugs!. (versed is in the valium-type drugs)
No worries! Find out the drug mix they used and how much of each for future record!. If needed, you can tell future doctors your experience and what and how much drug was used!. That way, any future doctors can use something else!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
