Answers:
If your dentist means traditional polishing, it's just like having your teeth cleaned, except the polish has no flavor in it!. The polish removes "pellicle" which is the protein layer that forms teeth when they are bathed in saliva!. Not painful at all!.

If your dentist needs to do interproximal reduction (IPR), this is a process where the dentist uses a little strip of material like sandpaper to remove a little bit of enamel between the front teeth, so they can all line up!. This procedure has alot of pressure associated with it and feels creepy, but shouldn't be painful if done properly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm a Dental Hygienist from Texas!.!.!.

It's typically part of a cleaning (prophylaxis)!.!.!.

Polishing removes any plaque & light stain!. It makes the teeth feel slick and clean as well!.

It does NOT hurt!.!.!. it feels gritty due to the consistency of the polish, but absolutely is an EASY procedure!. If you've had your teeth cleaned, then its typically the last step a hygienist does!. Most patients love to have their teeth polished!.

Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The assistant "brushes" your teeth with a mildly abrasive paste!. No, it doesn't hurt!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
