Answers:
Do not let your DDS pull that tooth untill you have been on antibiotics for a little while!. The infection can spread to all your other organs and in time cause severe illness or death!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If the tooth has came apart then yes you were wrong to say no!. You should of let him take it out, as your normal dentist will now do the same!

You should trust them! They are after-all Dentists ha!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well wait and see what your usual dentist says!. If he says that it has to come out then that's like a second opinion for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would think a dentist who is board certified should be able to tell about your tooth better than you i guess you will find out soon if you need it pulled or not i would of not waited till it got to that point but if it did i would of had him take it outWww@Answer-Health@Com

you were dead right not to let him there your teeth and once there gone there gone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd sugest waiting and seeing what your regular dentist says! But you have to remember he knows better than you about teeth!.!.!. (unless your a dentist yoursefl) In the long run, it probably would be better if he did extract the tooth! It might continuously get infected so i'd take into consideration what he's said!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Get the second opinion from your dentist!. Many times when someone is very swollen, dentist want to pull the tooth to immediately get rid of the source of infection, since infections in the head can be dangerous!. He took appropriate action to drain the area and put you on antibiotics!. your body still has to deal with the build up of fluid and slowly the swelling will go away!. (it helps to massage the area)!. I hope he recommended warm salt water rinses as well!.
Many teeth get infected, that's why we do root canal therapy!. The question becomes, Is the tooth restorable!? (can it be fixed after a root canal is done!?) Also, check to see what total costs will be, it doesn't make sense to do half of the procedure if you can afford the other half in a reasonable period of time (a 6 month plan)
Also, all of the horror stories you have heard about root canal procedures being horribly painful will not apply to your tooth!. That can happen when the tooth is in the process of dying!. (Yours is already dead)!. The biggest risk for yours is a resurgence of some of the swelling because of this initial swelling!. You would be one of those people that should take antibiotics after the root canal procedure to help prevent reinfection!.
Good luck!
In response to some answers:
You are right that it's difficult to numb an area during a serious infection, The antibiotics are appropriate!. All dentists have to be board certified to practice in their states!.
And finally, there may have been a dentist murderer, but likewise, so were many doctors, nurses, car mechanics, dog catchers, veterinarians, grocery clerks, college students and high school students!.!.!. it takes all kinds!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why bother to go to the dentist if you know better, Just go ahead and see what happens!. Good for you!. sounds as though you'll never need the services of a dentist, doctor, optician, or when you do, tell THEM what they should do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

why could you not see your regular dentist--time to get a new dentist---no you should wait to see the person most familiar with your teeth---'SOME' dentist's don't have a clue---the veterinarians of medicineWww@Answer-Health@Com

If your tooth is so decay that it basically fell apart, then the tooth is probably beyond repair and it's going to have to come out!. And having a gum infection can affect the teeth around it!.

I guess it doesn't necessarily hurt to have a second opinion, but I am willing to bet your regular dentist will tell you that it needs to come out!. Just be thankful that the tooth is in the back of your mouth so that it won't be noticed when you smile!.

Anyway, yes, I think you should have gotten your tooth pulled!. Because now you're regular dentist will probably end up pulling it anyway!. Had you gotten your tooth pulled by the other dentist, by the end of this week your mouth would have been healed and you'd be feeling better!. Now, not only do you have to endure the pain of waiting until you see your dentist, but then you have to wait for your mouth to heal!.

No offense or anything, but I find it strange that you come on here to seek the advice of people on yahoo answers, rather than a *dentist* that personally examined your tooth!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't have let him pull the tooth out either!. I had an abscess recently I was then given a course of antibiotics!.and now having root canal to save the tooth!. Part of the Temporary filling fell out yesterday but thank goodness I'm in no pain!. I have a dental appointment tomorrow!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
