There isn't any medication in the guaze pads- it's just cotton!. And no, you are not scot free from the worry of a dry socket- in fact you are in the prime time to develop one!. You shouldn't have much significant pain by your third day post extraction!. If you have pain in the bone below the extraction site, then you may have a dry socket!. A dry socket is the result of the clot formed at the bone being lost, which lets the bone dehydrate!. Removing the tooth creates a tooth size hole in the bone, which the clot seals off!. Lose the clot, the bone dehydrates, and it hurts like a wooley booger!. The only treatment is a return to the dentist to have the site packed with a special guaze strip material!. What you have is just plain old guaze- not the iodoform strips, and it won't help a dry socket!. If you want to decrease your risk, stick with your after care instructions, and wait another 2-3 days!. Then you should be beyond the risk of it happening!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
