Answers:
The pain is the worst in the first 36 to 48 hours!. The pain then tapers off over the next 5 to 7 days!. So, lots of pain meds, on schedule right at first, then you should be able to take pain meds further apart as time goes on!. If your doctor didn't have you take ibuprofen (Motrin) and just gave you vicodin or percocet, you should be taking ibuprofen as well!. (800mg every 8 hours)!. The ibuprofen helps to reduce the inflammation, which, in turn cuts the pain!. Narcotic pain meds only help cut the pain, without doing anything to help the area get better!. (Don't take ibuprofen if you have been given a drug with aspirin in it, or if you are allergic to either ibuprofen or aspirin, if you aren't sure ask the pharmacist)!.
The first dose of ibuprofen won't help as much as the second!. Take it by the clock (every 8 hours)for at least 2 days!. then spread out the doses if you can!.
The combo of meds is more effective and safe for short periods of time (2 weeks or so)
Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

They gave me some medicine that started with an "M'!. I can't remember, but it didn't help the pain either!. I finally called them Monday and they called me in Hydrocodone, which helped!. I got dry socket the following week, so I had pain for about a week and a half!. It all depends on the person!. Just don't be prepared for it to go away in the next couple of days!. If it still hurts tomorrow, call the doctor and maybe they'll need to examine you for dry socket or call in something else!. Don't drink out of straws, smoke, or strain your mouth!. I smoked and got dry socket!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
