Question for those who have permanent(fixed) retainers.?!

Question: Question for those who have permanent(fixed) retainers!.!?
Well I am getting my braces off Wednesday and I was told by the orthodontist that I need a permanent(also known as fixed) retainer!. Does it hurt when it gets put on!? Is it uncomfortable!? Can other people notice it!? Does it affect your speech when you first get it!? Does it affect flossing!? And does it feel weird in your mouth!? Thanks so much! :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have had top and bottom permanent retainers on for over 2 years and haven't had any problems with them!. I originally had removable retainers and I prefer permanent ones by far!. It does not hurt what so ever when they are put on and for the most part you might notice a weird feeling for a day or two, but you quickly get used to it!. My mom is a dentist and sometimes tells me that my bottom retainer is noticable, but i don't think people notice that its there!. It doesn't affect your speech at all, but it does affect how you can floss, but it's still possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I dont have one but, someone who works for me does!. She says it wasnt painful to put on but, it was a little uncomfortable at first

these days she says she never even notices it!. no one can notice it because it's on the other side of her teeth!. she cleans it with her toothbrush as a natural sideffect of brushing and it does not alter her speech!.

best of luck with this and be brave!. don't be afraid to ask for a parent to be there, there's nothing wrong with that - at 31 years of age, I still have someone go in during dental visits with me because they're scareyWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have one! It's on the lower jaw!. It's no bother, and I don't think it's completely permanent!. They take it out after a while!. It doesn't hurt, and it may be weird at first, but you'll get used to it, and it'll be like it's not even there!. People usually don't notice it!. My speech wasn't affected, so no!. Flossing- yeah, it's like flossing with braces, just not super bad!. It feels weird, but it's fine, you'll get used to it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it doesn't hurt at alllll, it isn't uncomfortable either, you get used to it pretty quick!. no one can notice it, thye make the brackets the same colour as your teeth, and it didn't affect my speech either!. the only thing is flossing!. i have to use those platicy needle things to be able to get the floss through, and I've also had a couple of them break off before, but they fix them easily!. it really is nothing compared to bracesWww@Answer-Health@Com

It totally doesnt hurt and doesnt affect anything!. You can only notice it if someone asks to see it and you open your mouth and show them!. Doest affect kissing either!. You will get used to it and not even notice it after awhile!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well I dont have the permanent ones, but I have the ones you slip on and off, andI will tell the truth!.!.!.at first you do talk a little funny:) haha but once you get used to it your voice will go back to normal, it feels really strange at first like there is no room in your mouth, but its just like braces, they are hard to get used to, but eventually its not that bad, well!.!.!.goodluck! Dont worry it really isnt that bad:) haha!.

my daughter just had a permanent retainer put in, it didnt hurt her at all putting it in or while wearing it!. It dosent affect her speech!. You cant tell its in her mouth!. It is a little harder to floss around but you will get used to it!. Relax it will be alright!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No to all of the above!. I totally don't even notice mine!. I can floss fine!. The only time anyone notices is if I laugh wide mouthed!. Even then its only curious childrenWww@Answer-Health@Com

Although it will hurt, be uncomfortable, and affect your speech, it should be pretty unnoticeable, however I think b/c you are experienced with having braces and foreign materials and objects in your mouth, i assume it will not take too long to adjust!. As far as flossing, the ortho should give you special floss to go around the appliance!. Also, just like your braces, it may be sharp and cut your tongue, but they should give you wax for any sharp areas!. It really isn't that bad though!! :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

Depends on the type!. I have one on the inside of my front bottom teeth and it's completely invisible unless someone practically has their head in my mouth!. It's just a single zig-zagged piece of wire that's glued to the teeth, so it doesn't affect flossing at all!. It might feel a bit weird until you get used to it, but you already know what that's like if you've had braces!. It shouldn't affect your speech either!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your orthodontist will probably fit you for retainers that you will have to wear every night, not 24/7!. Yes they will make you talk funny!.

If you're really getting "permanent" retainers, they are probably just wires that your orthodontist will glue to the backs of your teeth, so they aren't visible!. Yes, those will make flossing difficult!.

You get used to them either way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it feels a little uncomfortable for just a couple of days, but then it's fine!. and it's on the back of your teeth, so nobody can see it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i luv it you dont have to remember to put it in and its nice

it doesnt hurt at all when they put mine in i dont really even notice it any more

but it does kinda suck when you floss

but besides that i luv them soo much more then the other onesWww@Answer-Health@Com
