Clenching your teeth due to anxiety?!


Question: Clenching your teeth due to anxiety!?
I often find myself clenching my teeth!. I think it is associated with anxiety, as I never had this problem until I started University three years ago!. I also grind them, and I wear a mouthguard at night, but it doesn't help with the clenching!. I get headaches once or twice a week and I think they are related to the clenching!. Has anyone else experienced this!? Is it common!? And does anyone have any advice or solutions to stopping the clenching!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

you could be doing it in your sleep!.

ask your doctor, and find out about getting a mouth guard/retainer type thing to wear when you sleep so your teeth dont clench!.

my mom has a similar problem, in her sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only thing I could think of would be to try and reduce the stress you're under - which would obviously be the ideal solution for all kinds of reasons!

Have you considered medidation and relaxation techniques or re-scheduling your workload to make it easier!?

One of my close friends did the same thing!.!. she had anxeity really bad and would grind her teeth when she felt overwhelmed!. To seek help, she started seeing a therapist and takes mild medication along with bi-monthly therapy sessions!. This has helped her tremendously, and she no longer has anxiety attacks or grinds her teeth!.

So!.!. I would strongly suggest talking to your doctor about this, and possibly seeing a therapist or a specialist with anxiety!. They know what you're talking about and could really help you stop the clenching and calm your nerves!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I actually have this same problem!. It can lead to terrible jaw problems so be careful! I actually have a small retainer type thing i wear around the house during the day!. You can't see that i'm even wearing it!. but it takes pressure off my jaw and keeps me from closing down and clenching too tight!. You should ask your dentist about this now before it gets worse!.!.!.

Or you could try some relaxation things to try to devert your anxiety to other places on your body!.

I have the same problem, it is due to anxiety, it results in TMJ which causes migraines!. I got on some elavil and it helped a lot!. I still do it sometimes, like when I'm really stressed out!. I used a mouthguard and ground right through it!. It sucks!. Try letting your jaw drop when you are grinding and you recognize it !. My jaw also clicks when I open it too wide, it's a side effect of the clenching!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes! Wearing a mouthguard at night is a great start!. In addition start a daily exercise program!. Going to University is tough and stressful!. Find other ways to give yourself (and your anxiety) a break!. In addition to a daily exercise regimen pencil in time for friends and extracurricular activities!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
