We tend to think of a bad problem more like a simple nuisance than an indicator of a potentially more serious medical condition!. After all, why would there be so many bad breath products and simple over-the-counter solutions if it was something that demanded immediate medical attention!? Therefore, we carry around a pocket filled with breath mints and tend to shrug the problem off as a side effect of our love affair with spicy foods or some similarly trite explanation!. Sometimes, however, chronic bad breath is a warning sign that should be taken very seriously or you risk severe consequences to your long term health!.

This is far from some exaggerated claim meant to sell bad breath products because the number two cause of chronic halitosis is gum disease!. Were you to visit a dentist for your bad breath symptoms, they might use a Halimeter to determine the origin of the problem!. Were the Halimeter to indicate that the emissions responsible for your halitosis were coming from the back of the tongue, then you would have the garden variety bad breath and there would be no need for alarm!. However, if the machine indicated that the gum line was the source of trouble, then you have gum disease!.

The bad breath caused by gum disease is due to anaerobic bacteria that create an infection in the gum tissue!. These bacteria like to hide behind and among plaque build-up (that invisible or sometimes opaque film that feels sticky and clings to your teeth and gums) because it is an oxygen-depleted environment and they breed much better in such circumstances!.
