Answers:
yes, you can have your amalgam (silver) fillings replaced with composite (tooth-colored!.) However, your dentist may be reluctant to do that if you have some amalgam that is still really great and functional!. You lose a little bit of natural tooth structure every time a filling is replaced (which puts you at risk for needing a crown or a root canal), so if the filling is still perfect, a dentist may not want to touch it!.

However, if the amalgams are old anyway, most dentists don't have a problem replacing them with a different material!. Just ask! Composites are more expensive though, just so you know!. (Around $20-50 more than amalgam!.) Also, they may not be as good as amalgam in back teeth that have a lot of wear, though that depends on the composite!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes though your insurance may not pay for it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I feel pretty confident that your dentist will not use a silver filling!. Long term side effects of silver fillings have not been promising, somewhat controversial, as a matter of fact!.so Most dentists use Amalgam, and I am pretty sure yours will too!.

There is much controversy about silver fillings!. One side feels that if you aren't having any problems with them, leave them alone!. The other side claims that silver contains traces of Mercury, a known poison!. How this interacts with your body is not determined, some feel that mercury from the silver vaporizes in your mouth and the vapors can cause lung problems!.

I wouldn't be concerned about additional silver in your mouth, and it is your personal choice if you want the ones you have removed!. KWww@Answer-Health@Com

I just got 2 done last year!. If your dentist can prove there's decay under the amalgam, which there will be, your insurance should pay for some of it!. I'd start with getting the bottom ones done first!. The replacements aren't cheap because they actually have to do an overlay, not just a refill!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
