TMJ...Is it too Late?!

Question: TMJ!.!.!.Is it too Late!?
I am begining to think I am developing TMJ!. Lately, my chest has been hurting while taking deep breathes!. Both my ears hurt, they feel like they are being popped, and it is very uncomfrotable!. My mouth has been hurting along with my gums and teeth!. I severly grind my teeth while I sleep, and I have a custom made night gaurd!. I would happily wear my night guard, but it is very large and its very hard to fall asleep with it in my mouth!. I have a very active mind and I find myself tossing and turning before I actually fall asleep!. I cannot stop thinking about things, whether its a song stuck in my head, or a task I am stressing about!. Having a plastic guard on my teeth wouldn't help at all while trying to fall asleep!. I am 16 years old and i have always been aware of the risk of developing TMJ!. I am visiting my dentist this week to see what other alternatives I could use instead of the night guard, and i was wondering if I wore it every night, could I possibly reverse the deveoloping TMJ!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
In your case the reason that causes the TMJ problems and teeth grinding is crystal clear : STRESS!.

You seem to have stress about everything!. Night guards have proved to be very effective for treating TMJ disorders, but if for you even the mouth guard is just another stress factor, it will not help a lot!. It could help in reducing possible damage but not in eliminating the problem!.

The best thing to do is find a way to relax!. There is a variety of relaxation techniques that can help!. If you do not want to visit a specialist, there are plenty of books about stress management that could help!. Medications should be only the last resort if all other treatment approaches have failed!.

I have found some breathing exercises before going to sleep very helpful for my personal teeth clenching problem!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
