I'm a dental assistant!.!. and there is no real danger in using whitening strips!. I have used the Aquafresh Strips and they worked great for me!. Just make sure that when you use them you whipe away the excess gel from your gums because it could irritate them by making them burn!. By the way!.!. if you really want to whiten them talk to your dentist!. (S)he can make you custom bleaching trays that include floride which is really good for you teeth!. They work alot better and the results last up to 4 years!. It's a little pricey but well worth it!.!.!. Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

My mate had one done it stripped off some of the enamel (not sure that's supposed to happen) and she had terrible sensitive teeth for ages afterwards!.

Edit:I think the problem was that it made her nerves in her teeth more exposed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you referring to the take-home whitening kits that you buy at a store!? or the custom made trays and syringes that you get from your dentist!? The ones you purchase in a store don't really work as efficiently as the custom made trays and I'm not aware of any "horror"!. Some are slimy and can be messy, and don't taste that well!. The only downside to the custom made trays is it can cause extreme sensitivity, depending on the % and whether you wipe it clean from the gums!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Over the counter kits are fool proof if you follow the directions and don't think that more is better!. More is not better, especially with chemicals!.

Think along the lines of using tanning creams!. Spray lightly and evenly several times over the cours of a few days and you get nice results!. Lay it on thick one time and you are an orange!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Teeth-whitening toothpastes

Cons: Toothpastes with whitening agents, even those that carry the American Dental Association's Seal of Acceptance, are unlikely to actually bleach the teeth!. Even if they have bleaching additives, two minutes of brushing isn't enough time to do the job!.

--------------------------------------!.!.!.

Over-the-counter products

Cons: Higher risk of cold sensitivity and gum irritation because the whitening chemicals can make contact with the gums!. Ill-fitting trays can also cause jaw problems!.

Strips do well with the front six teeth but not farther back in the mouth!. People with wide smiles might notice a color variation!.

The active ingredient in many over-the-counter products is hydrogen peroxide rather than carbamide peroxide!. It's carbamide peroxide, at a concentration of 10 percent, most often recommended by dentists!.

--------------------------------------!.!.!.

Dentist-directed at-home treatment

Cons: Side effects aren't eliminated!. About 50 percent of patients notice at least temporary sensitivity!. Patients may need a touch-up in a couple of years!.

--------------------------------------!.!.!.

In-office treatment

Cons: Loss of control some patients feel with at-home method, a more gradual process that allows them to assess their progress!.

Doesn't eliminate the possibility of extra office visits and a home kit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They can damage your teeth, dont take the risk!. These things were featured on a TV prog!. a while ago!.

More than a few people were unhappy with the over the counter kits!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
