Question: Herbst Appliance!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
I just got a Herbst Appliance yesterday, and I absoultely hate it! I can't eat, talk, chew, there are HOLES on the inside of my cheeks, and I am drooling!!!! Any tips on how to work around it and eat with it on!?!?!?!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only real solution to this is time!. You will get used to talking and eating!. The "Holes" are painful, I know, but the mouth gets used to the appliance rubbing on the cheeks!. With any orthodontic appliances in the mouth, it takes a few weeks to get used to!. Just speak slowly, eat slowly and gradually go from softer to harder foods!. Take an over the counter pain relieiver if anything is causing pain!. Also, I ALWAYS recommend warm salt water rinses for any mouth pain or sores in the mouth!. I promise that it helps the pain and heals the sores!. Wait a week or two and if you're still in some pain, call your dentist or orthodontist!. Sometimes adjustments need to be made!. The appliance is important; that is why it was put there!. It will be worth it for the health of your mouth and it will create a beautiful smile!
