Question: Got my wisdom tooth pulled 5 days ago an it looks like a deep whole, could something be wrong!?
I got my wisdom tooth pulled 5 days ago, an after all that time it just looks like a never ending whole in my mouth!. It doesnt hurt or anything but, it does have a bad taste an it makes my breath smell!. I rinse my mouth with salt water an Listerine after i eat or drink something!. It stopped bleeding the same day I got it pulled, so I took the gauze off same day!. I was just curious if there could be a problem!? and whats the reason for the smell and taste!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It will take several weeks and possibly a few months for the opening to cover over!. The tissue is being laid over the bone first, working its way up to the top!. After the healing is complete you may always feel a slight indentation where the tooth once was, it's perfectly normal!.

The dark hole is the blood clot you are looking at, it will change from the black to a white or yellowish color as it heals!.

You don't have a dry socket unless you are experiencing severe pain, worse than what you experienced the first few days post-op!.

The odor and bad breath is most likely caused by food particles getting trapped in the opening!. Try to swish vigorously with really warm salt water, as warm as you can without burning yourself and do the rinsing especially after eating or drinking anything!. You will notice a remarkable difference after a few really good rinses!. You can rinse as often as you like and swish vigorously, the clot is formed well after a week, you won't disturb it unless you stick something down in the opening, don't use a syringe or anything else to try to clean the opening out!. If it won't rinse out, it doesn't need to come out!. It's a good idea to avoid eating grainy, seeded, nuts, popcorn and any hard or crunchy foods for a few weeks!. Things like ground beef, hamburger buns, seeded muffins, Doritos and tortilla chips; these foods are easily stuck in the opening, difficult to get out and the sharp chips can cut or jab the tender newly forming tissue!. Any food particles that you can't rinse out or that get stuck in the socket will eventually start to break down, decomposing and becoming a potential cause for an infection to develop!. It's the perfect site for bacteria to grow, warm, dark and moist and with lots of food particles!.

Discontinue the Listerine until you have completely healed, this is too irritating to the tissue right now!. Be sure to take extra care with flossing and brushing; keep up good oral hygiene for faster healing and less complications!. The salt water will soothe, cleanse and kill the bacteria in the area and your whole mouth for now, it is much more natural and gentle!.

So to clean your breath, floss, brush your teeth and tissue including your tongue and the roof of your mouth for at least 2 minutes or longer and swish with the extra warm salt water, about a teaspoon to a half cup of water, the warmer and saltier the better!. Watch what you are eating but continue with a good diet and be sure to floss, brush and rinse after eating or drinking anything!.

Everyone here answered your question well but I felt you needed just a little more information to go along with all the other answers!. Hope I've been of some help and that you heal nicely and quickly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is a deep hole, those teeth have really long roots!! it will heal over in time, the foul smell can be from a number of things, not necessarily the gap where that tooth was! Generally, anything retained in the mouth will give off odors as it decays!.!.!. this includes your tonsils! some folks have trouble keeping particles from collecting in there!.!.!. OXYGEN, not alcohol is what kills foul odor, get a rinse that says it is an oxygenating one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

As long as it doesn't hurt, then you shouldn't have a problem!.
The hole will heal from the inside out and since it takes such a while to heal is because the skin is pulling itself over the jawbone to close!. Just continue rinsing your mouth after every meal and you will be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds pretty normal to me!. Had mine pulled and it took around a month for the holes to close up!. You're doing well with the maintenance!. The smell is probably from a little puss formed by the healing process!. Do the rinses more often and vigorously and that will go away sooner!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, I've never had my wisdom teeth removed, so I really don't know what to tell you!. I'm old, and I've never had "any" problem with mine!. As for my husband, he says, there will be a hole for a while, and it will take some time for it to close up!.

Good luck!
