To be honest if its been root treated then you would really need a crown putting on it for strength!.

Root treated teeth do become brittle over time and generally need crowns, but i support your dentist in trying the filling first!. He/she knows that while a crown is more stable to the tooth it destroys alot of tooth to fit the crown and that's what they try to prevent!. At the end of the day natures own teeth are far better than an artificial tooth!.

It really depends on how much of the tooth is filling!?!?!? if its just one or two surfaces i would personally stay with trying another filling if it was more than two surfaces then i would ask for a crown!.

It also depends what type of filling they have placed!? and the technique they have used!? i would ask your dentist to explain to you why they think the filling has come out!?

NHS crowns will be metal coloured and usually last around 10yrs before the tooth would need removal!. Private crowns are made of better material but no dentist can give you an guarantee that it would last any longer, and you need to have very good oral hygiene to maintain the crown!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
