Dry socket after tooth extraction?!

Question: Dry socket after tooth extraction!?
I had a large bottom tooth extracted today!. The trouble is about 10 years ago I had the same tooth on the other side taken out and I got a dry socket!.
The pain was unbearable and I,m really worried it,ll happen again!. I mentioned this to my dentist and he said unfortunately my tooth didn,t bleed much after he,d taken it out therefore clotting is less likely!.
He dressed the area of extraction and prescribed antibiotics, will this prevent a dry socket occuring,
Thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,
Hopefully he has placed something like Alvogyl in the socket which smells like cloves as this will help prevent dry socket and looks like brown hairy stuff!. Antibiotics will help if you had a prior infection but cannot stop dry sockets!. Be very careful when you rinse not to disturb the socket so just gently but don't not rinse as debris can cause the socket to become infected!. Use warm salt water mouthwash as salt acts as an antiseptic!. If you feel any pain tomorrow or the following days go directly to your dentist!. They can put another dressing inside the socket and the quicker its in there the quicker it will heal!.
Don't poke your tongue in the socket which is very difficult as the tongue is a very curious organ!
Avoid extreme temperatures of food and drink for the next couple of days!.
Don't spit out as the force can dislodge the clot!.
Avoid alcohol and smoking
Avoid strenuous exercise and rushing around!.
Good luck xWww@Answer-Health@Com

I had dry socket with a large back tooth last year!. It did not bleed much either, and no clot formed!. (Also, if you are female, apparently time of the month is important too!.!.!.I read that somewhere on the internet!. I spent a week trying to get as much info as possible about this horrible condition!.)

The antibiotics - metroniadzole - will head off any infection before it can take hold, but if there is no clot there you can't avoid getting food and stuff in the hole and down to the jawbone, which,( in conjunction with any infection) causes the terrible pain of dry socket!.

I packed the hole with a mild solution of clove oil on a bit of gauze and changed it two hourly, but this was only AFTER being diagnosed with dry socket!. You don't want to tamper with the hole if there is any chance of a clot forming!.

You don't want to create any 'vaccum' in the mouth, so as previous posters have said, no straws, and keep your tongue away from it!. Also be careful spitting when you clean your teeth or rinse!. Allow the water to run out of your mouth instead of sucking in your cheeks to gather fluid in your mouth!.

Also avoid 'bitty' foods (rice, grainy bread, nuts etc) and rinse with warm salt water after ever meal!.

Hi there!.
I got a tooth pulled last year and was warned how painful it could be if i got one of those so im sorry to hear uv experienced that before! I remember that the best way to avoid one is to try and leave the area alone as much as possible, like say drinking through a straw to avoid rinsing the blood away or leaving the dressing in for a couple of days (obviously replacing it through the day)!. Antibiotics will help it heal up and prevent infection so yeah they're a gd idea!. I hope this heals up well for u, im sure it will :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

dry socket occurs when a a blood clot does not form and the socket is exposed to the air!. smoking, sucking out of a straw and spitting can increase your chances of dry socket!. Antibiotic will not prevent dry socket!. Dry socket usually occur 3-5 days after extraction!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well it should since the cure for a dry socket is an antibiotic then it should also serve as a preventative method!. You can also avoid dry sockets by not smoking or drinking through a straw!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unfortunately, not!. The anti-biotics will prevent an infection, though!.

I will say a prayer for you!.

God bless!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
