Hi, I have alot of pain in my tooth and I'm wondering whats wrong!. It's a very sharp shooting pain in my canine tooth, and it hurts when i bite on things, put pressure on it, and when i intentionally suck in air via my mouth!. A cracked/ fractured tooth usually causes pain not on biting, but releasing the bite!. (it may be saved with Root canal & a crown- min cost $3000 APPROX , but will probably need to come out!. $200+!.
Pain sucking in air can either be sensitive teeth!. (cut out all citric!.!.!. tomatoes, wine, orange juice, mouthwash, ANYTHING acidic (some fruits)for a week and see if it gets better!.!.!.!. (consult & xray $100+) change your toothpaste, 1!.sensodyne is brilliant, 2!.oral b & 3!.colgate are good!.!.!. try not to do other brands!.!.!. (without mentioning names)
Or it could be a cavity- check this out asap or it will end up in root canal therapy which is very expensive!.!.!.!.!.and time consuming!. $1- $2000+
Pain, or pain on biting may just need your bite adjusted!.!.!. dentist will sand your tooth down a mm, so it doesnt contact your others as much!. $80+
Receding gums can also cause extreme sensitivity!. not much you can do but brush your gums upwards on the bottom and downwards on the top!.!.!. when you brush $60+

Due to trauma or deep decay nerves will slowly die!.!. Symptoms are acute pain!. Short and sudden!.!. You will freak out, take a few nurofen maybe antibiotics, pain goes away!.!.!.!.end of story!.!.!.!.
6 months later you are on our doorstep with a swollen face looking very sorry for yourself!.!.you dont have an appointment, you have no cash till next friday!.!.!.!.pleading for help!.!.You havent slept in days!.!.!.& youve gone through 2 packs of panadol in the last 3 days!. YOU HAVE AN ABCESS! You may have a pustule on the gum near the tooth, this is a definate root canal or extraction!.!.
Sometimes when people are so inflammed and swollen, (especially alcoholics & drug addicts- because they are kind of immune) the anaesthetic doesnt work!.!.!. trust me, a root canal on a live/dying tooth with no needle is very unpleasant for all of us!.!.!.
So!.!.!.!.!.!. do yourself a favour- and go to the dentist!.!.!.!.!.
I know checkups are expensive, some just cant do every six months!.!.!. but if you really brush your teeth AND FLOSS properly theres no reason you cant do it yearly!. We have one elderly asian patient!. He comes every six months on the dot!. He has needed nothing but a checkup for the last 6 years!
Get yourself an electric toothbrush, brush for a min of 2 mins and keep the floss on the table and do it while you watch tv!.!.!.
