Why is my new archwire square?!

Question: Why is my new archwire square!?
I just got my wire changed for my braces (they said it was a size 20), and I came home and noticed that it's square shaped instead of rounded!. I was curious about the purpose of a square wire!.

Thanks :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
A square wire allows for more controlled movement of the teeth!. The slots in the brackets are square, so a square wire cannot turn freely in the slot the way a round wire can!. This means the teeth can't freely tip in unwanted directions!. A square wire is usually put on once the teeth are looking fairly straight!. You might not notice so many obvious changes as you did with the early round wires, but the roots of your teeth will be moving to catch up with the crowns (round wires mostly move the crowns of the teeth and not the roots)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
