God they hurt a lot when they put them on, I couldn't chew or touch my teeth!
I have to have them on for two years (The majority of high school for me) but I am told they will be quite worth it!
I had about 3-4 appointments, first xrays, then molds, conference with parents over cost and such and then got them on!. They take a lot of maintenance for the best results, but again, its probably worth it!.
Any color is fine except the following : light colors like white/cream/clear not a good idea : when you eat they turn the same color as your food and the clear ones become visible!.
Black/ brown makes it look like you have a gum or tooth disease!.
yellow/green makes it look like you have food stuck in your mouth!.
They'll probably look weird to you at first, but its only because you're not used to having metal in your mouth!. You'll get used to it though!.
And cautionary advice from friends and stories: if you are trying to kiss someone with braces, proceed with caution : if they get locked it calls for a very uhm, awkward ride to the orthodontist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have braces they hurt when they are tightened like someone took a hold of your teeth and tryed to pull them out!. I have had them for 4 years i no thats a while but i will soon be getting them off and im soooo excited I no when I first got them i talked different so i'll be happy to talk like me again!. i have to wear bands!. and also spacers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
i have them!. They hurt a lot for the first 3 days then the pain slowly went away (all i ate was applesauce and soup)!. After a week you will hardley even notice them!. By this time you might have to use wax that is given by your dentist and use it on the poking wire!. When you get them tightened it wont really hurt when they do it but it will really start to hurt the next day!. Dont worry though the pain goes away by the 2nd day!.
Final tip: MAKE sure that you brush WELL!. You dont want to keep them on longer then they need to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had them for the entire duration of high school!. Not very good timing, that one!. Luckily, I got them off a few weeks before my senior picture and prom!. If I were you, I'd avoid colors!. The idea behind that being to not draw any more attention to them than they already command!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
