New Dentures Feel Awkward and Huge. Trouble Eating and Talking ... Normal?!

Question: New Dentures Feel Awkward and Huge!. Trouble Eating and Talking !.!.!. Normal!?
I had extractions done and dentures placed yesterday!. Full upper denture and lower partial (kept 6 of my own teeth)!.

I'm not in much pain!. Some soreness and swelling, but not too bad!.

But these dentures feel so huge and alien to me! I was told that they would seem strange at first, but I constantly feel as if I'm about to gag!. Talking is difficult (I sound like a drunk) and eating!? I can manage tiny sips of liquid and broth, but anything else chokes me (even the antibiotics and pain meds I'm supposed to be taking)!. I just cannot swallow anything but plain liquid!.

My mouth feels and tastes like it is full of foreign "stuff!."

Is this feeling temporary!? Of course, I know there's an adjustment period, but will this ever feel "right"!?

Thanks for your help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know exactly what you are going through!!! I'm 54, had my first dentures made at 15 because of medications that severely damaged my teeth!. At first, your speech sounds like you lisp!. Words are hard to say, and you feel like you have a mouth full of marbles! In a few days, you should be able to talk normally!. When the swelling goes down, it helps too!. Just remember that it is only a few days of "weirdness" and discomfort, but you will have a BEAUTIFUL smile for the rest of your life!! Hang in there, and blessings to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't have them but my gma does and she said that you need to talk to your dentist about every little thing that is uncomfortable or hurts because she went for a few months with them too long and she was in sever pain that was solved in a cpl min by the doc sanding them down a bit and everything was better and her suffering was for nothing!. It should feel like gum stuck to the roof of your mouth and solidly held in by whatever method you choose!. I had a retainer and I can imagine that the 1/8 of an inch that the dentures take up in the roof of your mouth will change how you talk for a couple days!. Talk to your dentist about making them fit you and then once they feel like they fit but are foreign work on eating and getting use to them!. Another thing to consider is that your mouth is swollen and a bit under shock!. Just talk to your dentist and once your mouth has healed and see what can be done to make the dentures fit!. It should be kinda like a glove!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
