Question: Braces advice!!!!!!!!?
My school is having basketball try outs the day i get my braces put on will it affect my braces or my playing!? will my mouth hurt then!? plz help!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You may be slightly uncomfortable on the first day!.
I would also suggest you tell your orthodontist about any sports you play, he will recommend that you use a mouth guard; they can make one from an impression taken with your braces on but it will take an hour to make the appliance!. This will protect your teeth and your braces in case you are hit in the mouth accidentally!. It does happen quite often with patients who play in sports!. It happened to me once playing basket ball, many, many years ago, before we had mouth guards!. I was hit in the face with an elbow, the inside of my upper and lower lips became in bedded in the brackets!. No fun, lots of blood and very painful! So, trust me, get a mouth piece!.
We advise ortho patients to take an Ibuprofen such as Advil or Motrin before placement of the braces and over the next few days, also during the course of their treatment at adjustments; the Ibuprofen works best for dental pain since it's an anti-inflammatory and Tylenol or Aspirin just doesn't work to reduce the inflammation!.

No, I don't think so!. I don't have mine yet, I'm getting them June 5th, but everyone I know that have them says they don't hurt the day you get them, they start to hurt the second day, when your teeth really start to move, and after the second day, it just gets better!. You should be fine if they are on the same day, maybe take some Advil right before just in case!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
The first week is the worst!. It wont hurt the first day, but yeah, you might want to take some Tylenol just incase!. Bring the wax, though, cause that helps too!. As long as you wear your mouthguard, it won't bother you!. (I got whacked in the mouth with the basketball without my mouthguard, and it hurt soooooo bad!. I had cut up lips for a week! !.!.!.!.and it was at jump ball, so ididnt get to play in the came!!) LOL, good luck with everything!Www@Answer-Health@Com
You'll be fine!. I would take some Tylenol or something like that before you go just in-case but it won't be bad!. When I had braces (for 4 yrs!) it was only an annoyance!. It doesn't hurt at first it feels, tight!. Anyway keep your head in the game! You will be fine I can guarantee it!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should be fine if you take a pain killer that doesn't make you drowsy!. And just focus on doing good, and not on the pain!. But otherwise, it shouldn't affect anything!.
