They will shape your natural tooth for a crown to fit over it!. They take an impression and have a lab make the permanent crown, it usually takes about 10 working days for the lab to make the crown!. In the mean time they will make you a temporary crown that they will glue on with temporary cement!. Don't be alarmed if the temporary doesn't look all that great, keep in mind they call it a temporary for a reason! Your real crown should look just like the rest of your teeth!. I am a dental assistant and have also had my front 4 teeth crowned for cosmetic reasons!. My temporaries were pretty bad but the end result was awesome!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, you will have a temporary crown until the permanent one is ready!. Usually a crown starts with lengthy sessions in the chair first removing the nerve (painless due to local anaesthetic) and having a root canal treatment/filling!. Then either your tooth will be 'filed' to accommodate the crown being fitted over, or your dentist will insert a 'post' to which he/she will cement the crown!. It's all painless except for the slight discomfort of local anaesthetic injections, and of course the cost!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You will be numbed up!.
A shade will be taken for the new crown!.
The tooth will be shaved down with a diamond drill [about 1-2mm all around]!.
A string will be placed around the tooth in the gingival sulcus to allow a good impression where the crown seals at the gum line!.
Material like jello will be placed in a tray and inserted around the tooth to make a mold!.
A temporary crown will be fabricated and cemented [the shape and color of this have nothing to do with what the new crown will be like]!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
