What causes and happens when a tooth loses it's nerves?!

Question: What causes and happens when a tooth loses it's nerves!?
What causes and happens when a tooth loses it's nerves!? My dentist told me basically my tooth lost all it's nerves, and they might be able to do a root canal if they can get in there under a microscope to find a nerve for the root canal!. Or get it pulled and have bridge work or other options for it!. Hope this makes sense!. Anyone else have or know about this!? What exactly causes it!? I know what caused it, from an accident that happened 5 years ago he said!. But I want to know why it took so long for this to happen and what will happen if I do not do anything about it!. Like what will happen if I don't get anything done to it, just live in pain!. Will the tooth just eventually fall out, or!? I will get something done, but he didn't really say a medical/dental term for it, just the tooth lost it's nerves!. So, if you have the medical/dental term as well, I'd appreciate it!. Thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The root of the tooth has a nerve and blood supply!. The death of the nerve can be due to damage to the nerve---a blow to the face or tooth decay---or due to loss of blood supply, which causes the tooth to 'die'!.

If you have a good tooth that has simply died, a root canal is a great option--the root is retained in the jaw, and is drilled to remove any dead tissue or decay!. then the tooth is shaved down and a prosthetic tooth is made to fit!.

If your tooth is decayed, get your dentist's advice about what you should do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My friend had the nerves in his tooth knocked out when playing rugby and got hit in the jaw so its probobly just a knock or collision!.
His tooth just turned a transluscent blue but thats it!. It hasnt fallen out or anything he just said the dentist said it was "dead"
does this sound familiar!?
hope this helps :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
