My filling broke...?!

Question: My filling broke!.!.!.!?
Apparently that is what my dentist told me!.

I had a black spot on my tooth, so I'm guessing that was a part of my filling beginning to crumble away!. Now it's really deep black spot and it is painful to chew with it in certain angles!.

When the filling finally broke off, it took out a whole chunk of the back of my molar where the filling was!.

When fillings break on a tooth, is it usually painful to chew with!? Is that normal, Or did I just get a bad filling!?

And how much is it going to cost without insurance to get my tooth refilled!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, fillings normally last longer than 5 months!. If you just need the filling replaced, it probably cost in the $1-200 range- unless your dentist elects to redo it (for free)!.

If more of the tooth broke off and not just the filling, you may end up needing a crown, which will get near the $1000 range!.

It is normal to have discomfort when chewing if you are missing a filling or if you have a broken filling!. It is also normal to have sensitivity to cold or sweets (when missing a filling)!.

It's hard to say whether you had a "bad" filling or if something else happened to the tooth!. It's possible that after you had the filling placed, your tooth fractured, which caused the filling to come loose, but your dentist would need to assess that!.

Hope that helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
