Make sure you wear chapstick!! Your mouth will be stretched and be open for a long time, so you will want to have your lips soft and flexible!. My lips split during my consult and it was nasty!.!.!. eww!.!.!. so I loaded up on the chapstick for the day of my appointment!.

There will be some discomfort, as your mouth will be open for 60-90 minutes while they are individually placing the brackets and adjusting things in your mouth!. The stuff they put the braces on with tastes disgusting, TRUST ME, and they will usually warn you before they put something on that is particularly vile!.!.!. but yes, orthodontics tastes rather nasty!. You will get through this part and for me, the taste was really the worst part!!

Wear comfy clothes, as you will be sitting for a while and you won't be able to get up!. Go to the bathroom if you need to before too!.!.!. hehe!.!.!. you won't be leaving the chair!

Your mouth will be sore because of the constant pressure being placed on your teeth!. You can help with this pain by taking some Advil before you go in and then take it regularly or as needed for pain for the first couple of days!.

Mouth sores are common, as the braces will rub against your mouth and cheeks!. Use the wax as needed during the day and then don't put it on at night!. You need to learn how to build up a tolerance to the new stuff in your mouth, but use the wax when you need to WHILE YOU ARE AWAKE!. Ambesol works wonders too, especially on the sores that the wax just doesn't seem to help with!.

You will droooooooool everywhere! Your body will try and fight the new stuff in your mouth, but this will eventually go away after a while!. Just stay extra-hydrated with water and this will help you deal with it!. Try and avoid the caffeine and sugar, as that will not help with the drooling (smile)!.

Go in with a positive attitude, as this will help you the most!. Braces are not going to be forever and you can really make the best of the situation by choosing to have fun when you have your appointments!. I like to wear my shirt that the office gave me, I wear a flashy bandana that matches it all tied up in my hair, and I am chatty when I come in!. I come in with a smile and I leave with one!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Having braces placed is pretty painless!. Later on in the day your teeth will become tender as they start to move!. To be on the safe side take some extra strength tylenol before you go and keep it in your system for the next 3-4 days!. I work for an orthodontist and the reason we recommend tylenol is because it is known that high doses of some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen can slow and even stop tooth-movement!. Most recently Imigran, a drug used to treat migraine has been identified as possibly interfering with tooth-movement!. So be careful when selecting your pain relief medication!. You will also want to stick to a softer diet because your teeth will be to tender to chew anything tough!. Also ask the orthodontist to give you plenty of wax and show you how to properly apply it!. Best of luck to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i had braces for four years so i know a lot on this subject!. when you first get them on theyre going to feel rough around your cheeks and inside of your lips, so get oral-wax to put on the areas that bother you until you get used to them!. (your orthadontist might supply you with this herself)!. also, they are going to feel very very tight on your mouth and probably hurt for a few days, so take some pain medication when needed!. theyll be hard to get used to at first (and limit the foods you can eat such as corn on the cob and bubble gum) but the outcome will be amazing!. once you have a perfect smile, itll all be worth it!. good luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well they will hurt at first but you will get use to it! just have to worry about the tighting after 2 months!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
