well at first you wont be able to eat much of anything!. because you will be very sore and it will hurt so for the first week or so, stick to soft things like soup or mashed potatoes pastas!. after that, the only things to avoid are stickey gooey candies like laffy taffy or sour patch!. (i can eat them now because i have become a pro at being careful, but i advise you not to even try) be careful when you eat things like steak, because ripping things with you teeth is bad!. also, watch it with some of those breaded foods, because things will get stuck in your teeth like crazy and it can look pretty gross if you are out with a bunch of people!. aviod hard candies, like dont bite into a sucker!. any kind of SUGARFREE gum is ok to chew!. i have found that the minty stride gum sticks to my teeth thought and its the same with other minty flavored gum!. but the fruity ones are ok, as long as they are sugar free!.
try not to eat anything too chewy as this will make your gums sore and it will suck!. ABSOLUTELY NO POPCORN! the curnals will get stuck and it can get pretty nasty if it gets under the skin!. it might seem impossible to avoid getting it at the movies but trust me it gets easier to stop eating all of this junk food!.
anything sticky, chewy, gooey, crunchy, hard,or crispy is someting to be careful around!. just be cautious!. if it looks like you are gonna have a hard time eating it, don't !. and if it looks like it will get stuck in you teeth (bread, breaded foods, chicken, loose meat, OREOS!.!.!.) dont smile or talk too much until you have visited a bathroom with you floss of brushpick!. (those things are really cool theyre like a mini toothbrush and you can get them at walmart!.) also dark sodas and too much of any soda can be bad for you braces too!. i still drink them, but not as much as i used to!. something about the acid in them can mess with the hardware!. and always use a straw at least thats what they told me!.

just be careful and cautious and dont eat anything without first thinking twice!. besides, your orthodontist should give you something with a big list of things you cant eat!. mine did
o and no biting nails or chewing on pencils either!. and be careful around apples they can be dangerous!. and never bite anything too hard becuase your teeth will hurt very badly the next day!.

ok good luck if you have any more questions, feel free to email me!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,
I have braces and was in the same position you are inbefore I got them!.
Eat soft foods, because they will hurt for the first couple days!.
(yogurt, ice cream, etc!.)
Watch out when you are eating stuff that you have to bite into!.
Cut up all apples into slices, and eat them with your molars!.
Make sure you brush your gums alot!.
They will get "inflamed" as the dentist says!.
They will get all puffy and bleed alot if you dont brush them 2-3 times a day!.
All my friends chew gum even know they have braces!.
Some only chew sugarless!.(they say it doesnt do anything!.)\
-I am not allowed because my dad says that if i chew gum I have to pay for the braces!.
But the gum, sugarless or otherwise, will get stuck on the brackets(square metal thingys)!.
The other thing( just as important as brushing you gums) is to floss!
My brother is 16!.!.!.!.he never flossed!. He got 2 cavities in between his teeth just because he did not floss!.
so floss!.
Thats all I have for now!.
Good luck and hang in there!
They are frustrating!
I have them for 2 years!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Spagetti, soup, mash, soft white bread from the bakery ect and drink lots of good fruit juices!. If you chew chewies it eases the pain cos it gets your mouth moving and muscles relaxed, chewing chewies was the best advice with braces i ever had, dont listen to the dentist when they tell you not to!. Also chew chewies straight after getting them tightned cos then you feel no pain cos your mouth was moving from the start!. And remember when you get them off it doesnt hurt one bit and its worth everything to have straight teeth!. xoxoWww@Answer-Health@Com

i ate soup and mashed potatoes

it is just really sore and when your not eating anything, it feels like you will be able to eat hard stuff but as soon as you bite down a little, it hurts
