Is it normal for a dentist to pull out more teeth for braces?!
Question: Is it normal for a dentist to pull out more teeth for braces!?
I have 14 teeth on the bottom, 7 on the left and 7 on the right!. Strangely enough, I have perfect teeth on the right side but on the left side, I have a medium-case of teeth crowding where 3 teeth grew bunched up by each other!.
I expected only one tooth to be pulled where it's crowded (because as far as I can see, with one missing the two can realign perfectly) but my dentist wants to pull out another tooth on the "perfect" side!?!?!?
Is this normal!? I think it'll look so weird! Plus, it's perfect on that side! Why!?!?!?

I had four teeth pulled out for my braces!. That was 23 years ago now!. I'm really glad they did it though I hated it at the time!. They pulled all four because the rest of the teeth need to fit in neatly together!. Having all four pulled out also meant that when my wisdom teeth came through I wouldn't need to have them removed!. Now all my teeth are straight and I don't need to have anything else done!. I would go with what your dentist suggests because they have a good idea of the pattern of tooth growth and movement!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
It's quite common for dentists to pull teeth for braces!. My daughter had to get two teeth pulled to help fix an open bite!. Her teeth weren't crowded but the orthodontist told her that this method was the only one that would definitely work for her!. Her alternative choice was to have to wear headgear nearly all the time and the orthodontist said that was not guaranteed it would be successful!. I didn't want to have those teeth pulled but she and her father decided it was the best for her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
That depends on the orthodontist's philosophy of treatment and how much crowding involved!. I am a general dentist and seen many patients with four (usually first bicuspids) extracted to make room for other teeth (to straighten)!. Generally, it is easier for the orthodontist to straighten teeth when there are more spaces!. I also seen when four teeth have been removed and there are "gaps" !. I requested my daughter's orthodontist not to extract any teeth if possible and he was able to do so even though it took a little longer to treat!. She does not have spaces where we typically see on patients who had their teeth extracted!. You have right to have a second opinion!. Hope this helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
He probably wants to pull out another tooth on the "perfect" side to make room for the crowded side to get them spread out!.
It's perfectly normal, don't worry :DWww@Answer-Health@Com
