Answers:
Is your dad on any anti-coagulation meds*, such as heart meds!? If so, call the dentist or dental surgeon who extracted the tooth right away for advice!. Bleeding all night is not normal for any surgery!. If it is a lot of blood (life threatening amount), go to the emergency room!.

*Anti-coagulating drugs for the heart, such as Warfarin and Coumadin, etc!., are designed to prevent blood clots from forming by thinning the blood and thus, can make it difficult for other wounds to form clots!.

Also there is some info on after-care on this site:

"The patient should not rinse, spit, drink with a straw, or smoke for at least 24 hours after the extraction and preferably longer!. He or she should also avoid vigorous exercise for the first three to five days after the extraction!.

For the first two days after the procedure, the patient should drink liquids without using a straw and eat soft foods!. Any chewing must be done on the side away from the extraction site!. Hard or sticky foods should be avoided!. The mouth may be gently cleaned with a toothbrush, but the extraction area should not be scrubbed!."

Bleeding will typically subside after a few hours!. However, light oozing may persist overnight!. Bleeding can often be controlled by biting on a tea bag placed over the removal site!. It is important to bite continuously for one hour at a time!. Change the tea bag hourly until the bleeding stops!. If bleeding remains heavy after a few hours, call your dental surgeon or dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
