Was I scammed by the dentist today?!

Question: Was I scammed by the dentist today!?
I went to the dentist for work that I was originally quoted $1600 for!. Then when I was there today the dentist told me my tooth was going to cost more than that and I had two options!. One was: to pay for a crown lengthing and a root canal for $2200 or choice two was: to pay for an extraction for $2800!. I told them I wanted the cheaper option, but after I paid and asked for the paperwork, I saw the $2800 total had included 2 crown buildups, 2 abut porcelains, and 2 porcelain margins!. Does anybody have any clue as to why they would have do two of each of those if they extracted the tooth!? Because if I took off the double ups on the total , then the cost of the procedure I didn't choose would of only been $1852!.
Did I get scammed!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds to me like he quoted you a bridge along with the extraction!. A bridge is one way of replacing a tooth once it is extracted!. Other ways include implants or partials!.

I don't totally understand the 2 porcelain margins!. A porcelain margin is where a dentist prepares a tooth to have a ledge type area all the way around it, so that they can have the laboratory make a crown with porcelain all the way around the edges and no metal on the edges!. We don't charge extra for that procedure when we do a crown though!. The abutment is the anchor teeth of a bridge!. You would have an abutment, a pontic (where the missing tooth is) and then another abutment!. The buildup is where a dentist removes the bad structure of a tooth or old filling and then "builds up" the tooth to accomidate a crown or bridge!. If you were one of our patients, your treatment estimate for this would have been for 1 extraction, 2 abutments, 2 buildups, and 1 pontic!. The total for that would have been around $3000!.

A bridge is an optional procedure after an extraction, however ethically every dentist has to offer a replacement option to a patient after an extraction!.

As far as the original treatment plan changing, that happens in dentistry or even any type of medicine!. Whenever we do any type of dental procedure, we have a patient read and sign an informed consent form!. The form always tells them that once the dentist gets started working on the tooth, if he finds less than ideal conditions for the original procedure, he may stop and inform the patient of his findings and give them an alternative procedure!. It sounds to me like he started drilling out any decay or old filling in your tooth and the decay progressed below the gum/bone level and perhaps into the pulp chamber!. At this point there would have only been two options: Doing crown lengthening and a rootcanal or to extract the tooth and then do some type of replacement procedure, such as a bridge!.

It doesn't sound to be like he scammed you, but it does sound like there wasn't enough communication over what the procedure would entale!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You probably did or depending on what work was done to the tooth before-if any then they might charge for undoing all those things!. But most likely it is an error or straigh up scam, make copies of your paper work bring the original and the copy back just in case they ask to see it you can have your copy for proof, because you never know what else they'll try and pull!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes you did you can go to small claims court in any city!. Another option would be to call the dentist explain your concerns and maybe you guys can work it out and if that doesn't work tell them that you are filing a claim with the better business bureau and that mights scare them a little bit!. But if they don't give your money back file a complaint with the better business bureauWww@Answer-Health@Com

Uh!.!.!.yep!.!.!.My tooth extraction was a total of $500 but there was anesthetic involved!. $2800 for an extraction!? Are you sure you didnt hear him wrong!?!?!? Sometimes dentists talk alot of dental-tech talk and thats to confuse the patient!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yeah you were!. file a complaint and you could maybe sue them!. if not, you can try to get an insurance company to cover some of that payment for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I feel you need to go over your paper work!.!.!.next Wed I am having 7 teeth taken out!.!.!.$140!.00 each a special metal partial plate for $1500!.!.!.Check with your insurance company!.!.!.I have had lots of dental work done over the years due to malocclusionWww@Answer-Health@Com

I am not so very clear on what you are talking about, but it sounds like the dentist is doing something wrong!. Do you have insurance!?
If so then he/she is ripping off the ins coWww@Answer-Health@Com

For one thing, an extraction should not be $2800!. I go to a very expensive dentist, but my extractions were only $115 each!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Were your options to take care of the one tooth or pull it and get a bridge!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
