Can a tooth that has had a root canal still hurt?!

Question: Can a tooth that has had a root canal still hurt!?
I've been going through this process for a good 3/4 months now!. It started because I had a filling in this tooth, and apparently the dentist went too deep, or something!? I dunno!.!.!.
Anyway, I had the canal, then maybe a month later, it filled, then a few weeks later it fitted for a temp crown, and fitted for my perm!. crown!. 2wks has passed since my last app!. where I was fitted for the crowns!. At first it felt fine, but NOWWWW, it hurts like crazy!!
There is an achy throbbing pain, it hurts to bite down upon, it hurts to touch, or even floss!. I've put little pressure on that side of my mouth, and can still feel pain when there is no pressure at all!.
Can anyone give me any advice!? PLEASE!?! I am calling my dentist tomorrow ASAP and demanding a refund! lol jk (but not really lol)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the bite on your crown is probably high, i work for a dentist and this is something that happens from time to time-if this is the case you will need a simple adjustment of the crown and the pain will go away, it wont be immediate but taking motrin will help!. heres what happens-your crown has a small high spot (which you may not even be able to feel) and so whenever you bite or chew it sort of beats up your tooth, until it gets worse and worse- oh and by the way its probably not that the dentist "went to deep"- he/she only went that deep because the decay in your tooth went that deepWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's normal!. When they do the root canal, they basically brutalize the gum tissue around it!. That's what's hurting, most likely!. You shouldn't be flossing around it!. The bite hurts because it's driving the temp crown's rough edges into your gum!.

Trust me, been there done that!.

In my case, because the gum had not healed well, they put temp cement on the permanent crown, so THAT has to come off and be permanently cemented!. This is 6 MONTHS after the original root canal!. Yeesh!

Good luck man, sorry you feel the pain!. Me too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

listen to what the first person said because it's true & gosh stop flossing that tooth!. don't waste any time calling your dentist, he'll help you manage your pain & explain to you what is going - I really don't think that a refund is in order unless your dentist totally messed up your tooth!.

Basically, the entire point of a root canal is to remove the tissue inside each of the canals in your tooth (which can have 2-4 canals depending upon the tooth)!. It's important for EVERY canal to be cleaned out!. If any canal is left with tissue, the bacteria from this tissue will go down the roots of the tooth and cause pain!. It's also really important that during the root canal procedure the dentist uses a microscope (so he/she can clearly see all of the canals to clean them out) and a rubber dam (so the tooth itself is isolated and the bacteria and saliva is kept out of the tooth during the cleaning process)!. If these things are not done, the tooth can become infected later on and cause a lot of throbbing pain!. If you think the root canal was not done well, you can always go see an endodontist (a root canal specialist)!. They'll take xrays of the tooth and be able to tell you if the root canal was done properly or not!.

When you got your crowns fitted, did you notice if you were bitting high on the tooth!?

You should definitely go back and see your dentist (or go see another dentist if you are not comfortable with the one you have now)!. You can always search online for a good dentist or endodontist near to where you live!.

Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com
