Can you not get your cleanings from a general dentist when you've had "!

Question: Can you not get your cleanings from a general dentist when you've had "work done"!?
I have an implant and crown and three veneers!. My prosthodontist, whose office is 42 miles away, insists that I go to her to get my cleanings done!. She said that "special treatment" is required because of my veneers and crown!. She said other dentists who don't understand the work I had done can be rough and may not be able to completely clean the areas that are the most vulnerable to decay/damage (ie!. the implant area and where I have my veneers)!.

She is 42 miles away!. I've tried asking if I can just go to another dentist but she keeps insisting I have to get my cleanings done there!.

Can't I go to some other dentist nearby who does veneers and implants to get my cleanings done!?

What I don't understand is, what if I move to another state or country, am I going to have to always come running to her office every six months!?

I'm not sure if this is ridiculous or not!. Some insight, please!.
Traveling 42 miles + 42 miles back home is such a burden when gas is $4!.00/gallon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is somewhat ridiculous!. I have been a hygienist for over 20 years, cleaned many a veneer, implant, what have you!. But, not every dentist and hygienist are as meticulous and professional as others!. It is possible to end up with poor cleanings and, as a result, the failure of your dental work, in which case, you may come running back to her saying that it all needs to be redone!. Her, not being able to speak badly of another dentist (because that is a professional "no no") will then be in a tight spot!. If she has control of your cleanings she will know that they are being done properly and can guarantee her work!.
I think you need to be honest with her, tell her it is just not feasable for you to return to her for cleanings and routine check ups!. You can ask her for a referral to someone in your area that she would be comfortable with!. If she still gives you the run around you can always go to a Periodontist for cleanings!. Even if you don't have gum problems you can be assured that your gums will be monitored and your cleanings will be top notch!. I would steer clear from dentists who "do their own" cleanings!. Most of them are not as thorough as a Registered Dental Hygienist, their attention in school has been multifaceted and only a minimal amount of time spent on "cleaning" techniques!. A dental hygienist has a minimum of 2 years in dental school alone with the entire focus being gum disease treatment and instrumentation!.

She is probably just worried if you go else where to have your teeth cleaned you will eventually have your done there and she would loose your business!. Other dentists and hygienist are just as educated on how to clean and take care of your work!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is a BIG pot of Poopie :)

Even a junior hygienist will be able to tell that you have crowns and veneers!!!!!!

She just wants to make sure that your business stays with her!!

A word to the wise- Dentists are licensed crooks!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
