Receeding Gums?? Any help from dentists?!

I have good teeth (maybe slighty discoloured since going to uni but thats all) and gums, but my left front tooth seems to be going funny!. They used to look the same but then the left one's gum disappeared a little in the middle!. (Its quite hard to describe!! :S) Bits of food etc get stuck in it more and recently, I have noticed that the top right has started receeding too!. I think that is what it is, I am not sure!. Is this possible!? Has anyone else had it!? Can it be cured!? And what happens if it gets worse!? (Worried my tooth will fall out!!) Thanks for your help!
