Dentist... What do you think of this crown problem?!

Question: Dentist!.!.!. What do you think of this crown problem!?
My dentist has taken 3 impressions for a cown on one of my molars!. Each time, the crown didn't fit!. He said it was too high!. The third time, he even switched labs!. Still didn't fit!. Prior to him, I had two other crowns (both molars) each time it fit (different dentist)!. What do you think is going on!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would advise your dentist to look hard at the prep!. If two labs didn't get it right, then the prep may need some modification!. The next place to look, is the impression!. I would look at both technique or material!. Stuff comes up to bite a dentist from odd places!. He sounds like he is going to get it right, so stick with him!.

There are numerous factors that can cause a crown not to fit!. Anytime a crown is done, and impression is taken!. In order for the crown to fit properly, the impression has to be almost perfect!. If there is any distortion, the crown isn't going to fit!. One problem that is very common with crowns being made, is the bite being too high!. This can result in not having enough of the patients bite in the impression when the lab tries to mount the case!. If the case isn't mounted exactly how the patients bite is, the crown will be high!.

There are hundreds of different types of impression materials and each dentist has their favorite!. A dentist that used to work in my current office swore by the J Morita H&H technique!. 75% of the crowns came back extremely high, with open margins or didn't fit at all!. He blamed the problem on the lab, but I believe it was in his impression technique and him not knowing enough about the J Morita H&H technique to do it properly!. Once he left our office, our other doctor hardly ever had a crown come back not fitting, because he used a different impression material and technique!.

I think it is his impression technique!. He seems to be getting distortion in his impressions!. There are thousands of dental labs across the US!. Many of them have websites that give dentists tips and instructions on taking impressions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It could be the lab or it could be that the impression isn't as good as it should be!. Kind of hard to say!. At least he is trying to get it perfect and not letting you leave with a faulty crown!. For your sake I hope he doesn't have to send it back a fourth time! Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your Dentist is probably frustrated too!. I know sometimes the impression material itself is the culprit!. Hope things go your way soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
