It's just a hole in your gum where the tooth used to be and where a blood clot is supposed to be, but somehow the blood clot came out and now your nerves are exposed!.!. They hurt really bad!!! I had one when I had my wisdom teeth removed last year!. The best thing you can do if you have a dry socket is to go back to your dentist (or oral surgeon) and they have this ginger tasting litmus paper that they can pack the hole with and it helps tremendously! They irrigate the dry socket first by squirting warm salt water in it to clear out any debris and then they pack it with the ginger paper!. It takes the pain away completely and it does NOT hurt when it is being irrigated!. You then have to go back every couple day to get it irrigated and packed again!. After about a week the hole gets smaller and smaller until it is no longer there!.

Good luck!! I remember I was in so much pain it made me physically sick to my stomach and I threw up!. Plus the taste is awful!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

A dry socket is the term used to describe an extraction site that has not healed properly!. Dry sockets occur after an extraction of a tooth!.!.!.it's caused by inadequate healing!.!.can be due to many factors!.!.excessive injury of the tissues during extraction, or the patient can actually cause it by not adhering to the post-op instructions that the dentist gives!.
If you had a dry socket you would experience a severe, dull throbbing pain in the area, usually beginning about 2 to 3 days after extraction!.
If you have had an extraction recently, and you are experienceing a lot of pain afterwards, I suggest you return to your dentist for them to have a look!. These need to be treated by the dentist!.
I can't say if what you have is a dry socket as I don;t know if you have had an extraction recently!.!.!.but the symptoms don't sound like one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I got dry socket when I had my wisdom teeth removed!. I think it happens when whatever is used to cover the socket comes off, exposing the nerves!. I knew I had dry socket because it hurt REALLY, REALLY bad!. I don't know if there was a black dot on it, because it hurt so bad to open my mouth!. The air hitting the dry socket was terrible! I had to go back to my oral surgeon and he put something on it!. By the time the demerol wore off, it did not hurt near as bad, other than the expected pain from having my wisdom teeth pulled!. I hope you are feeling better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dry sockets happen when the blood clot comes out of the hole where you just had a tooth pulled from!. Very painfull!. You will need to go in and have the hole packed with medicated gauze!. You can try taking ibuprofen but the dentist can maybe prescribe something stronger!. Good luck, hope it feels better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
