Why am I in so much pain? (dental question)?!

Question: Why am I in so much pain!? (dental question)!?
I had a temporary crown done on May 1, and when I was still in constant pain 5 days later, I called the dentist back!. She said she didn't want to see me, but called in a prescription for an antibiotic for me and told me to go get a root canal and then come back and see her to have the permanent crown put on!. Needless to say, I was NOT going to just go get a root canal without a second opinion, so I got recommendations and went to a really good dentist!. He couldn't find any evidence that a root canal was needed but the pain was coming from the fact that the temp!. crown was so poorly made that it was constantly cutting into my gums and causing severe pain!. He fixed the crown but told me that the tooth had not been prepped properly either (shaped all wrong to hold a crown) but he couldn't find any evidence of root exposure or anything, so he said to see if the pain went away!. It took almost a week for the pain to subside, but then it was great for about 5-6 days!. (more!.!.!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sometimes when a tooth experiences such a trauma as your has been exposed to, it just can't recover and eventually will die!. It sounds like this is what is happening to you!. The antibiotics and Ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours will help soothe the nerves inflammation, offering it a chance to survive!. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't!.

I find it very odd that the second dentist you saw was so critical of the first dentist!. Usually when we see poor work, we don't actually tell the patient about it, but repair it our selves!. It's just poor etiquette and is an unwritten code that we don't put down others work; they may do the same to you and it could be unwarranted!.

If you are still in a temporary, it could have developed a crack and is leaking causing pain, or it could be that it is too high and you are hitting it too heavy!.

I would go back to a dentist you trust, or an endodontist and have this checked!. An endodontist will not do a root canal just for the sake of doing one; there has to be a dying or dead tooth for him to proceed!.

Hope I've been of help and that you see an endo soon to have this whole situation evaluated!. Good luck!

Additional information: One of the most common symptoms of an abscess developing or a nerve dying, is when the patient wakes at night experiencing a throbbing sensation!. If the nerve is dying, it won't settle down on it's own for very long now; it will progress into a full blown abscess that will send you to your dentist begging for relief from the pain!. I would see an endodontist and have this tooth evaluated quickly before it becomes too painful!. There is nothing to fear with root canals; it is basically a filling that is placed inside the tooth's roots!. They are painless and done very quickly with an endodontist!. I hope you get this taken care of soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
