What will elastics do to my braces????!

Question: What will elastics do to my braces!?!?!?!?
I HAVE BRACES!. (DUH)

and i got elastics or rubber bands on them today!.

i have a slight overbit, but i don't think it is such a big deal!. I asked everyone i knew, and they all said it wasnt an overbite!. Except, my dentist seems to think so!.

Now, i would lovee to get rid of that slight overbite, but i don't want to move my jaw line!.

I love my face structure, and everytime i set up my teeth so it is perfect(no overbite), my face looks flatter and my chin becomes unproportional!.!.!.

Will my face look like this after the rubber bands!?!?
I DONT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN, SO IS THERE ANYWAY TO CORRECT MY OVERBITE WITHOUT CHANGING THE JAW/FACE STRUCTURE!?

Would it be okay to just skip out on the rubber bands!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The elastics (aka rubber bands) are going to correct your bite on a dental basis, not so much on a (facial) skeletal basis!. It sounds like you're sliding your lower jaw forward to simulate what they'll look like when lined proper but that is not really what the elastics will do!. It'll be more the teeth moving!.

Now there are 2 things in ortho that a lot of people mix up!. There is overbite and overjet!.

Overbite is the vertical (up & down) relationship between the upper and lower jaws!. So someone with an overbite may have the lower front teeth obscured (hidden) by the upper ones!.

Overjet is the horizontal (front to back) relationship between the uppers & lowers!. A term I detest - bucked teeth - may help to visualize this!. Upper front teeth sticking way out ahead of the lower front teeth!.

The elastics will help to pull the upper and lower teeth into a proper biting relationship!.

Braces will sometimes change a person's profile but if your changes aren't huge the profile won't be impacted so much!. If it needs to be done, it will only change it for the better!.

For sure, if you're going to wear the elastics!. Wear them!. Don't dink around with wearing them half time or only nights when the doc says full time!. That's extremely bad for the roots of your teeth!. Plus it will just extend your treatment time & I'd bet a shiny nickel you'd like them off sooner rather than later, yeah!?

But if you flat are refusing to wear them, be straight with the doctor & assistants!. They'll be able to tell if you're wearing them or not & it's insulting to sit and lie to a person's face!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the rubber bands were such a pain in the butt, but you honestly have to wear them if you want your braces off!. your orthodontist won't let you take your braces off if you're not showing improvement because you didn't wear the elastic bands!. they really bothered my jaw but they're for your benefit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well,

I have braces too!.
And i too have rubber bands!.
You have got to wear them! If you don't you will just have to wear braces for forever!. If you are seriously concerned about it you should ask your dentist!. But, before then you need to wear your rubber bands!Www@Answer-Health@Com

no wtf are u saying!.

not even!. a long time ago when i had braces and got rubber bands, they didn't do anything except keep my mouth closed!.

it just helps ur jaws from moving!.

and no its not good to skip rubber bands!. theyre good for uWww@Answer-Health@Com

You rubberbands are too pull your teeth back into normal position or what's called a class 1 bite!. It will not make your face look unproportional!. Ask your orthodontist he'll tell you the same thing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

don't skip out on your rubber bands if you do you won't ever fully finish your treatment!.!.!. you should talk to your dentist about your face structure and all that!.!.!. just wear them as told from your doctorWww@Answer-Health@Com
