Buck teeth relapse?!

Question: Buck teeth relapse!?
How common is it for buck teeth to relapse after braces!? How bad is the relapse, generally!? In my case, I'm relapsing because my tongue thrust was never recognized or treated!. I've been able to teach myself to swallow normally since then, but I really wish I had been told about this sooner!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Relapse is not predictable, as it differs between situations and individual patients!. Some patients can have no relapse without even wearing a retainer, others can have their malocclusion back in a couple of years!. Teeth are most prone to relapse if they were rotated to begin with - this can even come back overnight in some cases!. They are also prone to relapse if they are moved to an unstable position between the lips and tongue!.

In your situation, it would probably be safe to say that the buck teeth aren't going to come back any time soon - especially as your tongue thrust is now treated!. However, there have been cases of relapse decades after treatment - and teeth are prone to drifting forward with age also!. It would probably help prevent it if you were to carry on wearing your retainers once a week, or even less!.

Personally, I had buck teeth as a kid, treated with removable braces!. I was not given retainers, and my teeth moved within about 5-6 years - but the position was not quite as bad as it was to start!. I'm currently in round 2 of orthodontic treatment :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

My daughter has a permanent lower retainer, so yes, they can be worn forever like a bridge!.

If you have not been back to your orthodontist, please do so!. My daughter's orthodontist allows one recheck at no charge many years after treatment completion!. My sister's doctor did the same!. Both reworked treatment for a modest fee when the teeth drifted!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

permenant retainers should keep everything in place!.!. and shouldnt have an effect on your "tounge thrusting" !.!. i think you shoudl talk to your orthodontist about this to find out for sure!.!. hes the only one that would know the real answer to this!.!. best of luck,
