Question: Do you have any really bad dentist stories!?
Once, I was having severe pain, left side of my jawbone!. My dentist sent me to a specialist!.
This guy decided to see if a front lower tooth was " viable"!. He started drilling thru the enamel, no anesthetic whatsoever!. He hurt me, I fussed, he yelled at me!. Repeat!. That went on 10 or 15 minutes!. Finally, he sent me to a different dentist, who spent half an hour calming me down before he started to check what it might be!.
Eventually, another dentist decided to go thru the enamel of that tooth, but he gave me lots of anesthetic, so it didn't hurt!. And then we got to the next step, which was to put this tiny pick in there, jab, jab, If that first guy had gotten that far, I'd have been on the ceiling! I wonder if you can have a heart attack from something like that!?
After much trial & testing, I was diagnosed with severe osteomylitis of the jawbone!. Massive antibiotics cured it!.
Do you think that first guy was a masochist!?

I was in the dentist office for a routine filling!.!.!.
i had over an hour wait while i sat in the waiting room deliberating on whether i should pick up the People magazine or the Women's Health Issue and begin a massive reign of terror for the receptionist with paper airplane kamikaze flights!.
Once i was finally in the chair i was numbed!.!.!. the flavor was awful but no big deal!.!.!. i sat there!.!.!. waiting for the numbing to kick in!. and then i sat there completely numb!.!.!. and then i sat there some more!.
Finally my dentist arrived!. She was over-weight, and normally that wouldn't have bothered me a bit, but when she leans over your chest to work in your mouth it gets difficult to breathe!. Half-way through a drilling session she hits pay dirt and i jerk my head!. She yells at me, telling me she is serious, and a host of other reasons why i should be raising my hand when i am in discomfort!.!.!.
and so in response, with my swollen mouth and slobbering tongue i attempt to banter on about how she needs to be considerate to me, after all!.!.!. I'm the patient!. and i also mention that IT ******* HURT!!!
(of course it probably didn't sound anything like that, for all i know i told her i liked to pet ducks and ride tulips)
So i get numbed again!.!.!.!. and i wait, again!.
at this hour even her assistant is complaining about how slow she is!.!.!. how she needs a new job!.!.!. how she's starving and never gets to take a lunch break on time!. we wait together patiently until she can poke my gum line without me flinching!.!.!.
and then my dentist returns!.
(oh, happy day)
Mid way through this next session of drilling i feel the drill skip!.!.!. and what seems to be a really sharp pain in a different tooth!. A slight gasp from the assistant can be heard, and then
i hear something rattling its way along the suction hose!. The ***** broke a perfectly good tooth!. So not only did i have to wait for her to finish the filling i was scheduled for !.!.!.but i had to have my broken tooth repaired, and the really cool part!.!.!. she expected me to pay for it!
I hate the dentist!. They are all masochistic freaks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't have any stories like this - but the ones from the other answers are making me cringe! How did these people qualify!?!
I'm just here to say - wacko bad dentists are the exception, not the rule, most of them are nice, caring people who care about keeping your teeth healthy!. I'd advise anyone to get a dentist that has been recommended to them, and not just go to the closest/cheapest one that they find in the phone book!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was 12 and I had a root canal!. I wouldn't stop moving so the pointy tool they used to extract the root broke inside my gums!.
I had to go to 3 different dentist to get that out successfully!. I had to go a week with that debri left in my gums and I can hear my jaws squeak!.

I was having a root canal and the Dentist looked at the xray and couldn't see all the nerves in the molar!.He didn't give me any Novocaine and when I practically jumped out of the chair during his drilling he knew where the nerve was!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
When I was about 15 my mother took me to a dentist who said that I needed a root canal so he does what ever he does for the first day and I go home!. The next day I go to school and come home and my mother almost jumped out of her chair!. She starts screaming at me saying what happen to you!. I look in the mirror my jaw is swollen up big you would have thought Mike Tyson hit me!. I come back in the room my mother had gotten dressed saying we are going back to school thinking that someone in school beat me up it took all of me to calm her down!. To make a long story short she took me to the emergency room and I had to admitted to the hospital to relieve the swelling!. To this day I still don,t know what that dentist did wrong but I only go to the dentist when necessary!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
When I was 20 I was referred to an oral surgeon to have an impacted wisdom tooth removed!. The surgery went well, but a few weeks later I was having problems with a bone fragment that was stuck up under the tooth next to it!. It really hurt!
So I went back thinking he would just numb the area and sort of pick it out because it was halfway sticking out of the gum, but NOOO he numbed me and ended up cutting the entire area open looking for more pieces!.
Then he kept digging and hitting the root in the tooth next to it, which I knew that wasnt right and afterwards I had terrible pain for weeks till I saw my regular dentist and found out that the tooth was so damaged from the digging session that it needed a root canal!
That taught me never to call again if I experience problems! Just find someone new!Www@Answer-Health@Com

When I was a child - way before puberty, my parents took me to this hack job dentist, who decided to give me a friggen root canal - I was like 8 years old! Of course he did it with no numbing, saying that I should not be able to feel it for whatever reason (Don't remember the reason now, just the pain)!. It hurt sooo much, now any time I go to the dentist, I cry, because I am terrified of the pain!. Imagine, a 33 year old crying and asking a nurse to hold her hand!. All because of what that guy did to me! Can't believe my parents let him give me a root canal at 8 years old!. and when I turned 28, the darn tooth broke in half!. Traumatic!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
