First, in order to answer your question, we need to clarify what you mean by "rubber bands"!. Do you mean the ones that connect the top jaw to the bottom jaw!? Or the ones that are normally seen on braces (the ones that hold the wire in place)!? Well!.!.!.
Let's talk about the connecting the top jaw to the bottom jaw rubber bands first!.
These rubber bands DON'T have to been worn 24/7 (as my orthadontist said)!. It's better if you wear it more often, since the process will be much faster, but it's not required (to be worn all day and all night)!. However, you MUST put it in every night before you go to bed, that is a requirement!. So according to your "17 hour" note, for these rubber bands, this would be good enough!. These rubber bands are so that your teeth will match together the way they're supposed to, since when you have braces, your teeth shift and the alignment will be off!.
Now, the rubber bands that hold the wire in place!.
First of all, since you go to school, I'm assuming that many other kids also have braces!. In that case, you don't have to be worried that it might look bad on you, everyone, or most everyone had/still has braces!. Now, for these rubber bands, there's are reason that your orthodontist said that your teeth aren't moving fast enough, possibly due to the fact that you don't wear your rubber bands often enough!. These rubber bands, once again, hold the wire in place!. The wire does the pulling of your teeth, so without the rubber bands, you probably don't feel a tightness!. This tightness means that your teeth are being pulled together!. Therefore, without the rubber bands, your teeth aren't moving during the day, which will, after a while, add up to your conclusion, your teeth aren't moving as fast as they should!.
You mentioned that you've had the rubber bands since June of last year!? Assuming that you're talking about the rubber bands that hold the wire in place, if you want to get your braces off sooner, I highly recommend you wear them, even to school!.
However, if it is the rubber bands that connect your upper and lower jaw, then I'm not sure why your teeth aren't moving fast enough (I guess that depends on yourself!.)
I hope this helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

nope :) u should be wearing them 24/7 not 17/7 lol!. trust me your teeth will move way more quicker if you just follow the orthos instructions!. no one will care at school they will get used toi them and in the end who cares because you will be the one who will be wearing your braces for longer they wont care either way so i would start wearing them and would you rather have elastics or headgear!?!? beacuse your ortho can tell that you dont where them all the time :>Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some teeth just take longer to move!. when I had my bands in they moved much faster, I liked them MUCH more than I ever did my retainer!.!.!.I don't even wear that anymore, it grosses me out way too much!.!.!.!.I didn't wear my head gear either!.!.!.!.so my teeth took a year longer than expected to be right!.!.!.!.I wore my bands about 6 or 7 months and they moved alot faster!.!.!.!.If you want to have the braces off sooner then I'd wear them, if not then only wear them when not at school!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would be careful!. It probally is, but if you don't wear your rubber bands, you might have to have some teeth pulled!. Also you will get your braces off quicker if you wear them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No the more you wear tem the less time you have to wear braces perople can't fun of you when your braces come of and your teeth are beautifulWww@Answer-Health@Com

yes i think so!.
the whole point of the rubber bands are so that your mouth stays closed as much as possible especially when you're sleeping so i guess u're fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
