Why can't your jaw be opened when you are asleep?!

Question: Why can't your jaw be opened when you are asleep!?
My grandma had to have a tube run down her throat at the doctor!. The nurse put the tube in before my grandma was put to sleep and told her that they have to do that because no one can open your mouth when you are asleep!. Why is this!?
Also, this is probably correct, because, try this: relax your mouth completely, and try to pry your jaw open with your hands!. I couldn't do it! So, I'm just wondering, what is the reason for this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It's nerve action on the muscles of mastication!.

The muscles of mastication serve as a stabilizing factor!. In the case of your grandma, naturally when you are asleep the body is unable to react!. To better understand this, read on the Reflex Arc and Sleep!.

The mandible or lower jaw is a semi-movable joint that allows the opening and closing of your mouth through the TMJ!. Normally when the mouth is at rest or in physiologic rest position, the muscles of mastication serve as stability factors!.

The very reason why our jaw doesn't fall off!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
