Novacaine lasting up to 1 month????!


Question: Novacaine lasting up to 1 month!?!?!?!?
I had a tooth extracted yesterday and my bottom lip and chin are still totally numb!.!.!.!.and this isn't even where I had a tooth pulled!. I just called the dentist and he is putting me on a steroid to help the feeling come back!. Has anyone ever heard of this before!? He said that it could last 1 day or 1 month!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Novacaine is a short acting (hours) analgesic that acts on pain through a direct effect on the nerve fibers!. It does not have to be injected very near the tooth to effect the teeth, lips, tongue and gums that the nerve acts on!. I think what the dentist is referring to is that the nerve can be effected by other factors such as the pressure of the injection itself or the mechanical pressures of the extraction!. The steropid acts to help stop the inflammation that may be causing the nerve to feel numb!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
