Because!.!.!.I see commercials about becoming dental assistants all day, everyday but i don't ever see any about dental hygienist!.I also can't find any 2 yr or community colleges that offer dental hygiene in TN!.How can it be a growing career if its so hard to find a school to go to for it!?
Is the dental field in need of more assistants than hygienist!?!?

I'd really hope to be a dental hygienist, but I just don't know about it anymore!.It seems too difficult to get intoWww@Answer-Health@Com

I've been a dental hygienist for 20 years!. Hourly pay is great but the problem is there are very few job openings!. A friend of mine works for the Dept of Labor, she constantly tells me that dental hygiene is one of the fastest gowing career choices!. I have asked her if it's so great than why haven't I found a job when I have been looking for 2 years!? I've been temping!.
Dental assisting is completely different than dental hygiene!. A dental assistant assists the dentist!. Most office employ more than one assistant and jobs are more available!. A dental hygienist cannot do an assistants job and an assistant can't do a hygienists job!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I dont think your from the UK but ill explain how it is here!.!. might be relevant, Dental nurses didnt used to have to do any qualifications to get into it!. however now they do its a 2year course at school, dental hygiene is also a 2year course but its at university so its higher, dental hygienist typically work for themselves they dont act as nurses they are like dentists but just for gums!.
Nurses work with dentists, every dentsit needs a nurse but they don't really need hygienists!.
Most hygienists are former nurses its the best way to get into it!.!.!. and in the uk its so hard to get a place at university as a dental hygienist theres so limited places!.
Hope that helps in some wayWww@Answer-Health@Com

Dental Assisting is easier to get into because there are more programs available!. You can get certified without getting a degree (Although you can also get an associates degree in dental assisting)!. You may be able to find some dental hygiene programs at some of the four year universities!. A hygienist definitely makes better money, but both are great career options!. I think either way you could find a job easily!.

**An Orthodontic Assistant is a like a Dental Assistant, but they assist an Orthodontist instead of a Dentist!. You definitely won't get rich as an assistant, but the work environment is great!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think the two careers can overlap over each other!. So the one that is less specific can cover both!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
