Question: Would it be better for me to start out dental assisting then move up to dental hygiene!?
I know the pay is better as a hygienist,but I hear hygiene programs are really competive and so I want to start out something lower first!.But then again wouldn't it be hard to be an assistant while going to school for hygiene!?I need major help with this!.I don't know what to do!.I'd always said I didn't want to have to keep going to school for higher levels,but I don't want to get into college and then not get into the hygiene program!.That'd be a waste of time!.What to do!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It isn't moving 'up' to dental hygiene, it's moving 'over'!.!.!.!.the dentist is the one who signs both of your paychecks, and in some states DA's are licensed by the state, just like hygienists and dentists are!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
Entry-level salary for a hygienist is equivalent to a licensed dental assistant's salary in my area with a few years of experience under her/his belt (yes, there are male DA's)!.
You can probably work PT as an assistant while going to school for dental hygiene!.!.!. Start applying now to the colleges that offer it since you'll have to take some pre-req's as well!.
Just be sure you really want this as your profession and are not interested in it just for the paycheck, or you'll burn out quickly!.
Who knows, you may find out the dental profession isn't for you, or you just may end up with your master's!
