Can clenching your teeth cause gum recession?!

Question: Can clenching your teeth cause gum recession!?
Answers:
Clenching/grinding teeth can cause gingival (gum) recession!. The reason is this: when you bite down hard, you are flexing your tooth at the gum level!. When there is a constant flexing, your enamel rods starts to break away causing gum recession!. This will in turn causes severe sensitivity and if not brushed well, cause cavities!.

Heather is right about the treatment!. The most conservative way to treat clenching is to wear a appliance called night/occlusal guard!. Hope this helped!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I grind my teeth constantly in my sleep!. I have perfect teeth, yet I have pyorrhea of the gums!. I ground my teeth so much that I had to have a back one pulled because it was loose and became absessed!.
What actually causes gum recession is plaque along your gum-line!.
I went to a peridontist, and had deep root cleaning done to save my teeth!. It actually isn't that painful!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think so but I would see your dentist!. It maybe gum disease!. I had to go to a specialist called a periodontist to clean under my gum line!. Some regular dentist can do it too depending how bad it is!. it is from not flossing and rinsing your mouth at least once a day!. If it is teeth clenching, they can help you with that too!. My sister used to do it and it caused her bad head aches!. They gave her something to wear in her mouth at night till she out grew doing it (she would try it off and on to see if she still did it) She was around 10 when this happened!. She is in her 50's now and her gums are fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes it can, if you're grinding/clenching tell your dentist and they can make you a mouth guard to protect against the trauma you are causing!. Clenching is a hard habit to stop!. You just have to remind yourself all of the time to keep your "lips together, teeth apart"!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
