Question: Do they make cheap crowns!?
My dentist says I need a root canal!. That procedure is several hundred dollars! But then I need a crown for that tooth!. He said a porcelin crown costs like $1,000!!!!! Do they make cheap crowns out of things other than porcelin!? And is that a real price or is he overcharging!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

He is possibly talking about a porcelain fused to high nobel metal crown or could be talking about a Zirconium crown!. In my office we charge $985 for a PFM and charge $1075 for a Zirconium crown!.
There are cheaper crowns that don't use gold!. Gold is what makes PFM crowns more expensive!. Gold is selling for $1,000 an ounce now! Zirconium is not a metal, however it is very strong and many dentists use this on molar teeth!.
There are crowns that use non-precious metal in them and are cheaper!. However, they do not last as long and have been known to corrode and to leak around the edges(Margin)!. Non-precious metal crowns are probably around $500 now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Porcelain is the best though , for a natural look and finish!.
like the person above suggested going to a dental school!. That would be your best option , if you can't afford, they dirt cheap and use the best materials also!.However, the procedure is longer as they should have authorization for everything, but they do a great job!.And at the end the day it's the same results if you gone to a private dentist, just cheaper and you score!.

Crowns are priced according to the metals used!. I used to explained the difference in the price of a crown is like jewelry!. Cheap crowns mean cheap metal like costume jewelry!. Better crowns are like gold plated jewelry!. The best crowns are like gold jewelry!. Porcelin is used to cover the metal so that it looks like a tooth!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
No he is not overcharging, but you don't always need a crown!. My mother had a root canal done about 15 years ago and never needed a crown and I just had one done yesterday and the dentist said I didn't need a crown!. You also have the choice to have the tooth pulled which is much cheaper!. If it is one of the back teeth that no one will see missing, that is an option too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
